Have heard lots of good reviews about Anstruther Fish Bar and it did not disappoint! The food was so fresh and the chips are the best I’ve ever tasted! We will be visiting this area again next year and will definitely be returning, no doubt...about it!More

Very tasty haddock n chips with a good sized portion of both items. The mushy peas were also as tasty as mushy peas can be and it was a good strong cuppa too. Attentive and pleasant staff and a clean, bright environment. I would go...back here if I was in the area again and wanted fish n chips.More

We've had fish and chips here many times, making it a point to go on every trip over. This time we ordered take away and enjoyed it outside by the harbor. Best I've ever had. And, the parking was free. Well be eating outside again...next trip. I doubted I could manage with the wee wooden fork, but it worked great.More

I had a sit-in lunch here last week and it was a singularly disappointing experience. The fish was insipid and needed lashings of salt and vinegar to give it flavour. The chips were large and soft. On the plus side, the staff were pleasant and...worked hard constantly cleaning tables. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this chippy and I will not be returning.More

Had high hopes going into this fish & chips restaurant as the line was around the block. Because we were at the end of the day, the staff complained that they had to fry up more orders. The tartare sauce, ketchup packets and other condiments...were sold to us for relatively exorbitant prices. The little cup of tartare sauce cost £1.50!!!! For takeaway- Good Cole slaw, but the fish and chips were limp, greasy and undercooked. They served a ton, so size was generous, but it was most unfortunately rather inedible- I do not recommend!More

My wife and I had eaten in the Anstruther Fish Bar when we last visited Anstruther in 2021. We both had fish suppers, one with haddock and the other hake. Both meals were great, with good quality fish and good quality chips. Unfortunately, we visited...the Anstruther Fish Bar again earlier this month. What a completely different experience. We both opted for haddock. This was a big disappointment. Instead of whole fillets, we both got three different pieces of haddock. Instead of the batter being light and very tasty (like on our first visit), much of it was simply too crispy with jagged edges. As for the chips, well they were the biggest disappointment of all. There were very few large or even decent sized chips. Most were what I would call "scrag ends" in that they were small and hard, and mostly inedible. This chippy comes with a big reputation, with lots of very positive reviews. However, based on our recent visit, my wife and I simply don't understand why. Even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, all of the staff we came into contact with seemed to be very stressed. There are two doors into the building, and we went in through the door which seems to be were sweets and ice cream are sold. We were more or less told off for coming into the restaurant by a member of staff as we were told the other door was the entrance into the restaurant. As it was raining, we didn't see that there was another entrance, and in any case, on our first visit to the restaurant last year we entered by the same entrance as we also did this time. On our first visit, we were met by a member of staff who welcomed us with a big smile and showed us to a table. She never said we had entered via the wrong door. Unfortunately, this time we were just scowled at, and when we sat down at a table, we were told we couldn't sit at the table because it needed to be cleaned. We could see it needed to be cleaned, but we didn't mind and we told the waitress this, but the waitress clearly did mind. We got up from the table, to let the waitress clean it. After a couple of sighs, she did clean the table and we sat down. I guess this simply set the tone for how things were going to be. When we first visited this place we really enjoyed everything we had to eat, and we were made very welcome. Unfortunately, this time, the food simply wasn't good enough, and the staff's attitude left a lot to be desired. Overall, this was a very disappointing visit to the Anstruther Fish Bar, and I can't see why we would ever visit and spend our money there ever again.More

This is a very very busy and popular shop and we had a meal from there on our first night as it was highly recommended. The chips were definitely worth waiting for ! Crispy and dry, they were as good as it gets. I'm told...people come here from all over Scotland and I can see why - plus this won UK Chip Shop of the Year recently.More

Was a great day out, the experience was good. Purchased two fish and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce.thought the batter was amazing, however felt everything needed seasoning, my granny always had vinegar in her mushy peas.

Very disappointing fish not bad batter greasy and hard. Chips under cooked. Portion size less than expected. Obviously living on 2014 Award reputation tourists flock ing in in large numbers. Definitely a money grab under false pretences. Don’t believe it’s great it’s probably under average....Staff were nice and friendly. But as for a great restaurant their living in the past.
