Stopped for lunch at Dowhill just outside Turnberry while en route to the Cairnryan Belfast ferry. Really scrummy food option and the cakes and desserts options are brilliant. There is a wonderful patio type area just outside and a wee kids play are too. The shop is really cool with homemade goods and Scottish gifts etc. The bathrooms were absolutely... More

Start with the positive the refurbishment is beautiful very light and airy and the outside eating area is very nice. We called in for a coffee and cake but after surveying the selection of cakes on offer we decided not to bother everything was very underwhelming we were looking forward to a fabulous homemade cake what we saw looked as... Having visited Downhill for the first time after refurbishment, it was lovely to see the 'new look' hadn't changed the friendly atmosphere. We were served by Kelsie, for whom nothing was too much trouble. A friendly, well mannered young girl, both efficient and courteous. Our lunch was Downhills usual high standard of food, cleanliness and value for money. The new... More

Newly refurbished to a very high standard. Staff very pleasant and create a friendly and convivial atmosphere. Excellent coffee. Very varied and unusual variety of gifts available in the gift shop. Comes highly recommended if you are visiting South Ayrshire and are on the coast road between Turnberry and Girvan.

We ate here a lot prior to its refurb and loved it. The new decor is fresh and attractive but there are one or two things to add to the snag list - a broken lock on one of the two ladies toilets and a light fitting hanging off the ceiling. However the biggest disappointment is now the food, considering... More

My friend and I visited Dowhill recently and were delighted by the friendly welcome and excellent service we received in the restaurant. Our server Bethany was very pleasant and looked after us extremely well. We were very impressed by the new gift shop and the well stocked farm shop. Well worth a visit!

My partner and I were on a day out to Girvan and on the way back we decided to call in by chance. We both had a main course. I had lasagne which came with fresh veg of the day and chips. The surroundings were newly decorated and tasteful, views out to sea are lovely too. Nice farm shop to... More

I only ventured into the old Dowhill a couple of times over the years. First time the noise overshadowed the food. Second time the same, with the coffee bean grinder overshadowing any meaningful conversation and further visits. HOWEVER.... after a thorough revamp of the restaurant and farm shop/textiley area and getting several positive reports, a visit was called for. Single... More
