We went the Golden Fleece for dinner as we had stayed there a couple of years ago and enjoyed our stay. I think it must have changed hands since our visit, the place gets good reviews but we felt that the food was (a little...microwaved). When our main course was delivered I tried to order a drink from the waitress who declined my order and asked me to go to the bar. Very odd because only three tables occupied and two waitresses serving food. I didn't want my food to go cold so didn't bother with a drink. Don't think I will return.More

Enjoyed another great Sunday lunch at The Golden Fleece. Booking certainly advised - saw some walk ins unable to get food. Good selection of Sunday meals, including a platter for two although we heard thos had "sold out". Our beef was delicious and was accompanied...with a good selection of vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. After a little break we ordered desert, both of which were very tasty (although the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream was enough for three!). The best Sunday lunch we've found in the area and further afield; we'll be booking for next week.More

Have visited the Golden Fleece many times and would almost class it as our local, we arrived at 20:15 for a meal only to be told in an unprofessional manner that they had finished doing food. It clearly states on their website that food is...served daily until 20:30. Unfortunately they will not have my custom again.More

Booked for Sunday lunch for a family of 6 (4 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs). We booked our table months in advance. On arrival we were shown to our table which was clearly a table for 4 people but set for 6. When I queried...this with staff. I was told it was a 6 person table. We had to move a chair to the end to accommodate us all. When the food arrived it was clearly evident we could not all sit around the table comfortably. The food was average. Childrens choice was poor. Flat beer. On finishing our meal, no plates were cleared and a member of staff started sweeping up around us. We paid and left disappointed.More

We have visited several times over the past couple of years and always enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Unfortunately the customer service yesterday was disappointing. We were greeted by a member of staff who pointed to where our table was & said to go to...bar to order. I would expect a better welcome & service from a “restaurant” We spent over £200 & when we had to query an item on the bill the attitude of the waitress was just rude. If anyone looking to book I would AVOID sitting by the door which is where we were sat. Like sat eating in a cold corridor.More

There were three of us on this short break to our favourite Wales. We arrived on the 28th August which was a Bank Holiday. We signed in and was given WIFI instructions and the key to our room. The receptionist showed us how the electronic...tab worked on the doors and we went to our room which on first sight was very nice and acceptable. We unpacked and then went down to the bar for a drink and a bite. We liked the choice of seating within the ground floor and although our table was already allocated they did allow us to change tables. We found that on the whole the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was of reasonably high standard and more than acceptable. The drawbacks we experienced did mar our visit and once things start to go wrong they do not seem to end. I and my wife rely on WIFI and on day one we asked about logging on and we were given instructions which were pretty straight forward. We entered the password for our tablets and mobiles and we were up and running but not for long as the WIFI disappeared. I went to the desk and was told that there was a problem on the mast but the maintenance man was on the case. Same problem the following day so along to the desk I went with my iPhone and my tablet but no luck and it remained like that throughout our stay and the reply I received was, the WIFI is complementary and not a charged for item. We had no hot water throughout our stay and even after several visits to the desk nothing was done and we wasn't the only ones. I was traveling with three woman in a three bed room which had one mirror in the bathroom so once your hair was washed there was no mirror to look into whilst you blow dried it. A double bed with a lamp one side of the bed and a fan on the other but only one socket on one side. The stairway lights were off for two nights until something was said. Nitty gritty's which spoilt our trip and when raised were poo hooed. One other thing was the choice of a continental breakfast for guests who wanted to make an early start, a dried croissant and no butter or jam, a bag of crisps and a piece of cake which went straight into the bin and we had to make the pit stop we were trying to avoid we might as well as started off a bit later and had the full English or other like other days. A shame as there were so many unnecessary fixable faults to make ours and others stay so much better. We are indecisive on whether we will return or not!More

Visited this establishment on previous occasions and always enjoyed the food. We recently visited again for the first time since covid restrictions were lifted, the pub has since been refurbished and looks great. However when we walked in around lunchtime on a Saturday we expected...it to be busy judging by the number of cars parked up outside in fact it was very quiet with only two tables occupied and the occupants of one table just finishing off their drinks before departing. We approached the reception desk where upon we were told to pick a table and someone will be along very shortly to take our orders, a very long wait later I came to the conclusion that I would need to draw some ones attention to the fact that they have hungry customers! I went back to the desk and asked the very same lady if it was possible to order a meal for two only to be told that I need to go through to the Bar area and order there!! My wife ordered Scampi and chips with a salad and I opted for a cheese burger and chips, eventually after a short wait our food arrived my wife thought they had forgotten the salad until she realised that they had “hidden” the salad under the scampi in a small bowl. Id say the food was ok just not justified by the price Wife had a medium rose wine at £6.00 and I had a half pint of lager at £3.10 glad I did not order a pint! Bottom line an expensive disappointment wont be in a hurry to visit again.More
