We had the 5 course degustation (with surprise extras as well). Was a relaxed evening, and, as you would expect, took approx two and a half hours to get through everything. Very relaxed environment, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food was excellent and we followed up the next morning with a tour of the hotel organic garden - worth doing!

Ordered steak which only comes with chips and salad. Asked if the chips are gluten free. Answer yes. Then asked if they are cooked separately. Answer no. I stated this is cross contamination. Reponse was we get that answer a lot. Well how about changing how you do them. Then asked if we could have mashed potatoes instead. No. We... More

Always excellent food...Including in the bar side. However an hour plus wait on Easter Monday for such a we'll run place, without any coming forward to explain why...Well it's not up to standard.

The digustation is tasty but this restaurant specialises in slow service. Don't bring a first date here, bring a smart phone and a good book. It can take 1 hour between courses and I managed to read two news papers between ordering and breakfast service. It is also funny to watch how many people spin their wines constantly in a... More

Revisited after a few years and the new chef has made it as fresh and exciting as when it first openned. We were lucky to live in Paris for 2 years and it compares well with Michelin rated places. Food is of course great but the wine list is absolutely unique in Australia. I set the sommelier a test to... More

this was our second visit to the Royal Mail Dining Room. The chef on this second visit is Robin Wickens and he is a very fine chef indeed. Using largely local produce, he has combined them to make a series of original and delicious dishes. we ordered the 5 course dinner and every dish was original and superbly presented. The... More

Perhaps it was the buildup-we'd heard great things about this restaurant--but we felt a little bit let down by the food. We ate in the fine dining area--a 2 course lunch. The beef tartare and a lamb dish were excellent; however, both "duck and its dinner" and a chicken dish were disappointing, and dry. Nice, albeit expensive, choice of wine.... More

The food is good but there are many places in Melbourne that deliver better for less, so hard to justify a trip out here just for the restaurant (vs. Brae for example, which CAN be justified). There were a handful of surprise dishes and palate cleansers which was a nice touch. But the space itself and the service let it... More

Had dinner twice and this must be one of the top restaurants in Viktoria and/or Australia. Everything we tasted was of superior quality, however we found that the portions could have been a bit more ample. Exceptional winelist. Good service.
