Went at 4:30 pm on a Monday. There was 4 of us. Service was slow. Ordered our food. Oyster balls were a baseball size (bit smaller) with an oyster rolled in a corn mill mixture then deep fried. Was more like uncooked turkey dressing and a small oyster inside. One dish was Veal Schnitzel with cold German potato salad and... More

Large warm, soft Pretzels and ice-cold "fish bowls" (large goblets) of beer were great. Sausages were reasonable. Otherwise our party of four was not that impressed with our meals. I guess that we have been spoiled by a number of great dining experiences throughout Germany and some German restaurants in our home towns that prepare excellent German food. However, I... More

My husband and I decided to stop for some authentic German food. Big mistake going here. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. The food was the worst German food I have ever tasted. I had sauerbraten and the smoked pork chop was tough and chewy and the mashed potatoes were runny. My husband had Viener schnitzel and it was... More

Best Dishes are the goulash and beef stroganoff. The combo platter are big enough to share. Pictured is Blue Schnitzel with mushrooms and Blue Cheese, my wife gave it an 8.

I was born and raised in Germany and my meal at the Gerst Haus was the absolutely worst food I have ever had! The red cabbage was in big chunks and the only thing I tasted was vinegar. The "potato salad" consisted of sliced, undercooked red potatoes with vinegar. Authentic german potato salad is mixed with oil, vinegar, bacon, diced... More

Very disappointed, I have eaten here several times back in the 90's before the location changed so I was excited to bring the family here on this visit to Nashville. The gerst fishbowl ( a house amber) was still good, unfortunately, the food was in contention for the worst meal I have ever been served....anywhere. I would detail the problems... More

We stopped in on a Tuesday for a late lunch. We ordered the Gerst Sampler which included fried oysters, ham rolls, kraut balls, and potato pancackes. Then we chose to try the Gerst House combinations and had the bratwurst(pork sausage), kasseler rippchen (smoked pork chop), weiner schnitzel(fried veal), German potatoes, and spatzel. All of the food was wonderful. The service... More

This restaurant was authentic German and amazing! First time ever here, and I've visited Nashville for years! What a place and a Nashville tradition, since the 1950'S! I had the polish kielbasa with onions and peppers! German potato salad (cold), was awesome! The red cabbage was great, also! A friend had the kielbasa sandwich with fries, it was amazing too!... Excellent atmosphere and the fishbowl size beers are frosted. The food was good but can get a little pricey depending on what you order. Our meals were around 12 bucks. They can go up to 25.

We had a great server, were excited to be able to find my husbands favorite German beer that he had not been able to have since leaving Germany. When the band finally began, it was fun to have going on and they even began with a happy birthday to a customer. We had high hopes with the beer and the... More
