We enjoyed drinks at the bar one evening and dinner the next. The bar has a very good wine selection and a great craft cocktails. Beer was also available- two on tap, plus bottles. The restaurant menu had a nice selection of starters, salads, and entrees. The portions were nice and service was excellent. The food and dining experience was... More

We loved this Restaurant at the Dancing Bear. The food and service was fabulous and probably the best in Townsend. I recommend the Halibut or Salmon. Ours was excellent. The ambiance was first class. Worth the money for sure.

My wife and I celebrated my birthday in this restaurant that is at once cozy, rustic, and romantic. The effect of wood and stone is softened by subtle lighting inside and out. The ambience contributes to a relaxed, elegant-feeling experience. And the food is memorable. We began with an appetizer of barbecued oysters that were as good as one would... More

As a guest of the lodge, I of course wanted to experience the lodge's upscale dining experience. Was not disappointed! It was an icy winter night so the crowd was rather small, but I was dining alone and found that to be more comfortable for my own situation. The staff were all highly welcoming and took great care of me.... More

The Dancing Bear Bistro is part of the Dancing Bear properties including the Dancing Bear Lodge and Apple Valley Restaurant and Store. We ate here twice as part of our stay at the Dancing Bear Lodge. A bonus was that it was within walking distance of our cabin. The ambiance and quality of food was very unexpected for Townsend and... More

My daughter and her family visited my husband and me over Christmas, all the way from Los Angeles. She surprised us with a meal after Christmas at the Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro. Amazingly, she learned of the restaurant via the internet, and she had no idea that this is one of our favorite restaurants in all the world. We live... More

We really enjoyed our two dinners at the Appalachian Bistro. The first evening, we both had the wildfire relief dinner of chicken pot pie and a very crisp salad. This was a most perfect comfort food meal for a very cold evening. Our second dinner included the cast iron beef tenderloin, potatoes and wonderful roasted vegetables. The steak was perfectly... A very special night requires a very special venue and Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro was by far the perfect choice. Full disclosure: I didn't recognize nor can I remember anything on the special New Year's Eve menu except "bananas". There were offerings that I never heard of, nor could I pronounce - much to my "sophisticated" wife's amusement. Maybe because... More

We began our meal with a sideboard of small bites of half a dozen items. Our favorite was the Benny Bacon. So tasty!!! We both had a salad. The Caesar was unique in content and presentation and delicious as was the beet salad. For entrees we chose the pistachio crusted Halibut and bacon wrapped scallops. Both excellent but we were...
