We have tried all the BBQ joints in Lockhart to include Smitty's, Black's, Kreuz, and Chisholm Trail and Smitty's is by far the best and most consistent. The sausage, pork ribs, and smoked turkey were excellent....had amazing flavor. The brisket was good but comparable to Kreuz. The meats were all well seasoned and had a great smoked flavor. By far the... More

Parking was fine. You walk in through the smoke room, which I thought was pretty cool. Sides were standard. Small dining room. Brisket was excellent. Tender, moist, good smoke. I enjoyed it.

This place is a great BBQ throw-back. When you walk in, you come right past a huge roaring fire and are standing right next to the giant pit filled with meat. The walls are covered with years of smoke and they are chopping and slicing the meat on blocks right in front of you. They put your order on several... More

Ate here for the first time today and really liked the BBQ meats. The process of ordering was unusual and I thought I'd offer a few tips. The place/room where you order, pay for, and receive your meats is separate from where you order, pay for, and receive the side dishes. The room where you order the meats has two... More

Was here for my birthday, tried one other BBQ joint in Lockhart. Smitty's was the best of the two. Selected, turkey, lean shoulder, pork ribs along with pinto beans. Turkey moist and tasty, good hint of smoke. Lean shoulder ok. Pork ribs, would win many ribbons for quality taste, smoke and flavor. The owner got us some sauce for the... More

I only came here because the line of blacks was too long. However, it would have been worth the wait because what I got here was not good. The sausages were good that I tried. The sauce was good. However, I had to wait in front of a smoking-hot fire to place my order was already 85 degrees outside and... More

the food is always delicious here, and the staff is very friendly. Brisket and ribs were tasty and tender, and the sausage was great! My favorite part of visiting Smitty's is the place is full of history. From the tables with chains that used to hold knives so folks wouldn't use them in fights to the pits, chimney, and entire... Lockhart, Texas, bills itself as the barbecue capital of Texas, owing to its wonderful BBQ joints. I don't go to the Chisholm Trail site, for it's not the same as the others. Smitty's is the top for me, the original Kreuz's Market. A dispute over family business split the BBQ into two places, Kreuz's on the north side of town... More

Customer service is lacking. You feel like just a number. Brisket, though, is good. Sides could be better and not many choices. Sausage is way better at Black's bbq and Kreutz. Only thing here, the building gives it an old time, historic feeling.

We didn't understand the ordering process well so we over ordered too much meat - but it tasted SO good that we ate it all anyway. Best flavor I've EVER had. Definitely worth the 30 minute drive out of our way.
