Not a bad place. I can see the appeal for college students, plus watching football games. It would definitely be fun with a group. Food was average. I ordered the green chilies chicken nachos. My husband ordered the green chilies hamburger. Margarita was good... Hard to get seats, but it was on a Saturday with a Texas Tech game. Staff/service... More

Great little place that's apparently very popular in Lubbock. Nice outside patio. Cornelius - who has a a following in Lubbock - came by and showed us his bike.

One of our colleagues was a recent graduate, and suggested Chimys. The crowd consisted of almost exclusively early 20-somethings (other than our group), and the interior was rather crowded, although probably not to the extent that it is during the school year. The drinks were ok -- margaritas were average and rather pricey, beer was pretty reasonable. We didn't have... More

This place is good to go while the students are out of town, or on a weekday for brunch. Good drinks, decent prices. But it is so unbelievably crowded it's almost not worth the hassle.

We stopped in for lunch as I wanted to experience Chimys after being at a Josh Abbott concert and he was talking about the place. We moved our girls back to Tech for the school year and there were several parents in there but mostly college kids. Fun place. I bet the night scene would be crazy as it has... More

It may be a college hangout but it's really good. You know it has to be when you a city council member it has to be good.

Been here a few times and it's always the same. Beer is kinda warm, margaritas are okay. Food is pretty bland. The bartenders and waitstaff are nice, the door guys are rude. Crowded, hot, definitely a college hangout.

Mix great Mexican food, cold beers, good Margaritas and place it across from Texas Tech University. What do you get? Famous college hangout with indoor and outdoor seating. Look for Dr. Gus, retired prof, slick cowboy and premier storyteller, who's there most nights to entertain the gang. Fun, noisy and a real blast.

Fish tacos were excellent, the quesadilla was great as well. The long island ice tea was better than at some other restaurants that I've ordered those at. The service was quick, very friendly, and prices were not too bad. It was a little crowded, but as a restaurant close to the University, you would expect that.
