Open most weekends. This place serves good smoked brisket and sausage. Sides include German potato salad (good) and pinto beans (Texas staple). I prefer my beans softer, with more cumin, but they were good. Ditto the potato salad and brisket. The peach cobbler for dessert was to die for.

Good food at down home prices with good service and awesome locale! We've been twice. Step back in time and enjoy both the quietude and friendly staff, chef and atmosphere.

Great spot for lunch. The flourless chocolate cake is terrific. R has a Saturday dinner that he serves weekly and is known for.

Out in the middle of nowhere. That’s the only way I can describe R Place’s location. But that’s part of what makes it so wonderful. It’s on a road that isn’t heavily traveled, but folks who know about R Place come from miles around to enjoy the relaxed country atmosphere along with the well-prepared food. If serving barbecue makes it... More

The barbq sliced beef sandwich was stuffed with meat that practically melted in my mouth. My husband enjoyed the sausage, beans & German potato salad plate. Small town, laid back, friendly atmosphere. If you are visiting Washington on the Brazos state Historic site I recommend you give this place a try although I believe they are only open on weekends.

Heading to Washington on the Brazos park on a beautiful spring day. Looking at wildflowers in route. Did not know where we might lunch before the park. Website showed the restaurant closed that day. It was Good Friday. I saw great reviews on line for this place, so was disappointed it would not be open. Never fear!! I called the... More

I had a great time with Randy and the entire staff on steak night at R Place. My sister recommended and reserved our table for us and we ventured into "Old Washington" for a wonderful ribeye! The meal begins with warm Brie and bread, followed with a salad. The main attraction was the 10 oz. ribeye and loaded baked potato!... More

Four of us ate at R-place on Saturday evening, June 13, 2015. We live 1 ½ hr away and half the fun was getting there. Lots to see in terms of historical interest in the Independence, Washington-on-the-Brazos-Brenham Texas area, so enjoyed the drive. Took us 3 hours to get home due to all the side trips! All this because we... More

NO air cond or fans on at the time. Saturday was not, so we walked out. The place had the front and the side door open for air moving in the building. We were not impressed and will not go back.

Thank GrannyJo
