Mexican restaurants come and go in Vermont, mostly go. When a real Sonoran style restaurant shows up, believe me, we want it to succeed. We had lunch there today and the chips and salsa made a good first impression. We went through the salsa pretty...More

Food was good. I have high standards for Mexican food coming from Los Angeles. On a scale of 1-10 I would say 7. Service was excellent and atmosphere is fun. Prices are reasonable.

when we arrived there were 3 couples at the bar (2 already had food and beverages) and 3 tables with customers. We ordered our beverages (2 margaritas). After waiting for 20 minutes the bartender sent our server over to tell us that the tequila that...More

The margaritas are great, and they have a good variety to try. The food isn't very well spiced, and always tastes like it was recently reheated.

The menu is extensive and food delicious. Create your own combo plates... there really is something for everyone. The chicken enchilada was delicious; chicken was shredded and tender. And of course you should go on a Wednesday- $5.00 Margaritas! You will most likely have a...More

I had a jalapeño margarita and a couple of tacos. One barbacoa (shredded beef) and one fish taco. Both of them were excellent! Very flavorful and perfectly cooked. I sat at the bar and felt like it was one of the best neighborhood bars I've...More

We were passing through on way up to Canada and ate here for dinner. Everyone had left-overs with the combination platters. This is authentic Mexican food that can be hard to find in upstate New York so we were so happy with our choice to...More

This is definitely a hot spot for Mexican cuisine in BTV - a 30 minute wait is pretty standard, I ended up eating at the bar since I was alone. But it was well worth it! Etta was amazing! She can sling several drinks together,...More

Description
El Gato Cantina, is a traditional Mexican restaurant offering authentic Mexican cuisine to Burlington and Essex Junction, Vermont. The philosophy at El Gato Cantina is to make delicious food with traditional Mexican family recipes.

We now have two locations! Visit us in downtown Burlington at 169 Church Street, or visit our NEW restaurant on 4 Park Street in Essex Junction, VT.

Our menu consists of tamales, carnitas, fresh salsas, chili relleno and at least 10 different kinds of tacos and more. We take pride in our elote (Mexican grilled corn) and pozole, (the ancient Aztec soup of pork and hominy). Behind the bar we are fully stocked with a wide range of tequilas including some our house-infused tequilas made with jalapenos, oranges and our daily infused tequila specials.

We offer delicious vegetarian and gluten-free Mexican dishes and source our food locally whenever possible.

Dine in a casual atmosphere with a traditional Mexican Cantina feel. Join us today for a tasty Mexican meal the way Grandma used to make it.
