A bit off the riverside esplanade, locals were queuing in the light drizzle to get inside. First you pop in and write your name and how many seats you need at the bottom of a list, then you wait for your turn outside. Names are...More

On a side street on the Gaia Side of the Douro River we found a hole in the wall restaurant. The food was better and cheaper than the tourist traps on the main drag. We ordered grilled sardines and octopus. The portions were enormous and...More

This small restaurant, diner almost, is located on a small street off the main drag in Vila Nova de Gaia. On the corner is the large Sandeman port wine cellar, which is a landmark. Our apartment was situated almost next door, which was lucky for...More

A great hidden neighborhood gem a few blocks from the hostel. We went after a 20 hour travel day and had amazing food, served by caring staff. Went back for a last night dessert and drink.
Enjoyed the menu of the day with 3 courses, wine and coffee at a very reasonable price for the area. Service was friendly and portions generous. Compared with restaurants on the riverside it was a real bargain.
