I don't know who is posting all these 5 star reviews but they must not eat out much! The so called famous chili is disgusting! All it had was a cup of watery beans with hardly any flavor. I can teach them how to make awesome chili! My husband ordered a burger and wasnt told its so small you need... More

I was in Roanoke for one night only. I have a co-worker who grew up in the area, and he told me the one place we absolutely HAD to go to was the Texas Tavern. He even coached me on how to order. This is really the type of place every town should have. It is cheap, it has character,... More

After "eating" at the Texas Tavern I have to wonder if all of the four- and five- star ratings aren't some kind of "in joke" that I'm not getting. I've eaten in many burger dives with amazing greasy burgers throughout the US, but this is not one of them. Make no mistake, folks, this place is gross. It's dirty, the... More

This is a late night must, this place never closes and prices are cheap and food is greasy and great, don't expect fancy, just expect great food at cheap prices. If you are downtown drinking and want some great food afterwards you have to go here.

Needed something light to eat. Got two of the $1.40 burgers to hold me over. Always enjoy a quick meal. Just a great place to stop in and then move on to the next stop.

Where else can you get lunch for 4 people for less than $9.00 (including tax)? Danny was fast and efficient, cooking each order under the watchful eye of the patron. We entered a full restaurant, but left in 15 minutes having completed our lunch seated at the well used counter.

We discovered this restaurant a while back and it has been on our radar to visit. We made an overnight trip from home specifically to check this place out. Even if you ignore all of the other cool things about Roanoke (the pinball museum, farmers market, the giant "muffler man", and much more) visiting for this restaurant alone is worth... More

The food here is okay for a burger slinging joint, but the experience of Texas Tavern is all about feeling as though you've stepped back 87 years into the past. The two guys working there were amusing and exergetic and the building itself is right out of the thirties. Check out the foot rail by the counter, worn down by... More

This is a regular lunch stop for me. Open 24/7 every day but Christmas. Fast, historic, fun. I recommend the Cheesy Western with a glass of buttermilk. Their hot dogs with homemade relish are extraordinary. You'll enjoy.

Have been going here since I was a kid. Always get a bowl with add a slab and a cheesy with. Always great! Every time I'm in town I make a point to go. My favorite place to eat in town and always enjoy the experience. Also just tried the dirty travis that is on the "secret menu" well worth... More

On Feb. 13Th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. "Nick" Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cheesy westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto "Give the customer a fair shake" the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as "Roanoke's Millionaires Club",
it is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.
