We ate there with a large group during a vacation this week and I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, food and service. The ambiance is warm and inviting but in a modern mountain way. Our sever was very knowledgable and had great suggestions as well as tidbits of local mountain wisdom. The food was well presented and tasted good.... More

We ate at South Mountain Grille 2 nights out of our 3 in Snowshoe. Our first night was so awesome, we couldn't wait to go back! Our server, Aaron, was top notch and was a big reason we went back the second night. Both nights I had the soup special, a Pumpkin butter nut squash bisque. Honestly, the best I... More

With multiple recommendations, we made reservations at SMG for our special dinner out in Snowshoe. What a mistake! Seated in a dark corner with one menu to share, it took 1 1/2 hours for our entrees to arrive. Out waiter lied about the wait time by blaming the kitchen. I checked with the manager who told me he forgot to... More

We'll definitely stay at Soaring Eagle Lodge again but will probably skip the restaurant. This is our fourth trip to Soaring Eagle and we always look forward to the amazing food at the SMG. In past visits the food has been 5 Star amazing but this year the food was horrible and lacked any flavor. Not sure what happened here... More

That's right..... Cottage cheese soup !!! Congrats to Chef Kim for reviving a old favorite from the Red fox restaurant. Oh it's soooo gooood. Heavy cream, butter. That's right milk fat at its finest. So just get a cup. It's the stuff legends are made of .. Just ask Bon Appetit, they recognized this recipe in print decades ago. Thanks... More

We had a large party with a long standing reservation. We presented to a 3/4 full restaraunts. The hostess seemed a little testy. The waitress and food runners which I think was other staff helping the waitress were very polite, friendly and helpful. We were served in a timely manner. Good wine and beer choices/selection. Apps, salads and dinners were... More

This is the latest attempt to create a fine dining restaurant at this location. Unfortunately, The "chef" must have a large inventory of rosemary as virtually all the dishes included that spice. Also, the menu is quite limited. Virtually everyone in our party settled on a hamburger as it was most likely not to include rosemary. The lighting was subdued... More

My husband and I went up to Snow shoe resort and stayed for 3 nights. We dined at the South Mountain Grille. Our waiter "Frankie" was great. Super service and very attentive. While the prices are a little higher...the portion sizes are huge and the food was delicious. Great spot.

Without a doubt, this is the best Snowshoe has to offer. With actual chefs in the kitchen, you won't be disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere. Prices are high but I'll take high prices with great food and service any day over mediocre prices and poor service for mid-line prices (Foxfire & Junction). We will definitely be back.
