My husband had a taste for a chili cheese dog and when it can to the table it looked like it had set under a heat lamp to long the, when he tasted it ..it tasted like old chili. I had the fish sandwich and there was more bread than sandwich. I don't think I would rush back.

We came in for a quick bite after a very long, rainy day. The atmosphere is intriguing as this eatery is located in a former church. The food is always delicious and the German potato salad is to 'die for'!! The staff is pleasantly attentive. This is a rare jewel in the midst of the massive Dells 'bling'. Get your... More

Old schoolhouse turned bar, here is ample seating around the large bar or in the multi level rooms. Lots of seating for large parties! Menu is simple but tasty, and has homemade touches that make this a great choice to support local restaurants. Portions are large, and sandwiches come with homemade flavored chips. Drinks are good, and staff is very... More

Went for lunch with the family on a Thursday afternoon. It was very slow inside since this is not tourist season but the food was still good and not too pricey. Very friendly staff. Clean comfortable space with plenty of parking. I had the mushroom and cheese brat with homemade potato chips and dip. Very good. Waffle fries are good,... More

We stopped here on our last day of leaving the Dells, what a great time we had. Good food, atmosphere, and service and reasonable - it's in a very old historic builidng I think. It seems like a nice town hangout type place that is very warm and welcoming.

Stopped in for a quick beer and a brat. Beer selection was pretty impressive. Food was awesome. Learned a little history about the place which was cool. This is the oldest public used building in all of WI DELLS area. There is older houses of course not a building used for public use. You would.never know it from how it... More

I was born and raised in Wisconsin but have lived elsewhere for the past thirty odd years. You just cannot find a brat equal to those made in Wisconsin. The Brat House Grill satisfied a craving and we are delighted we stopped. My wife had the Kielbasa (she kindly shared a taste with me) and I had the brat. The... More

If I am in the area, this is one of my favorite places to eat. I love the food and assortment of brats. I love the homemade chips in 3 flavor choices. Oh, I almost forgot about the chili as it is perfect as it has just a little bite. I love watching football here also as they usually bring... More

When my wife and I walked in we were taken back by how cozy the place looked and felt. Stained glass windows dating to the beginning of twentieth century. It is a seat yourself place and as we walked in we were greated by the friendly staff. They have a great selection of bar food and of course anything you... More

Description
Originally constructed in 1850, the Delton Academy was a one room Baptist Boys Schoolhouse. In 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church. In 1894, the church was expanded and the entryway and side room additions were built. What was originally the entrance was replaced with the G.A.R. stained glass window and the bell tower was added. During this period it was also used as the G.A.R. Hall. The Grand Army of the Republic was the Civil War version of the V.F.W. for the Union army. In 1868, General Order #11 of the G.A.R. called for May 30th to be designated as the day of memorial for Union veterans; originally called "Decoration Day", it later evolved into the U.S. national Memorial Day holiday. The G.A.R. was also active in pension legislation, establishing retirement homes for soldiers, and many other areas which concerned Union veterans. The influence of the G.A.R. led to the creation of the Old Soldiers' Homes of the late 19th century, which evolved into the current United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The back room, bathroom and kitchen addition was added sometime in the 1950's. In the 1970's, the building was then purchased by a group of local residents and it became the Old Delton Academy Antique Mall. In the spring of 2007, the building underwent a revamping and became what it is today; the oldest public building in southwest Wisconsin and home of the Brat House Grill. The building still retains it's original wood floor, wainscoting and window frames. It's remarkable what great shape the building is in after it's extensive and varied history.
