In town for admitted student days at the University of Wyoming. Used to frequent this place years ago. The exterior looks a little tired and certainly had my son concerned. The interior has changed a lot since my last visit, probably 10 years now. The folks running the place were very friendly. Same with the wait staff. I had a... More

Reading the reviews today I cannot help but wonder if this restaurant is going through a "bad patch" due to difficulties hiring wait staff in a relatively remote location?, sudden departure of cook staff?, food delivery transport problems?, ownership/management crises such as illness? We were able to get a last minute reservation following our daughter's graduation from UWYO last May.... More

We are from Minneapolis and have been traveling the Southwest states for the past three weeks. We stopped in Laramie WY for the night as we wind our way back home. We asked our hotel clerk where we could eat a decent steak dinner and she mentioned the Cavalryman Steakhouse. It turned out to be a cozy restaurant with a... More

We had an early Valentine's Day dinner and my beef was cooked to perfection. The attentive staff, manager Brennen and waitress Morgan made the meal a wonderful experience.

We were the only ones in the dining room during the Super Bowl so I won't complain about the service.. our waitress was very nice and accomodating. For $24? I had the french onion soup which wasn't bad. The 12oz ribeye at medium well was ok.. not exceptional. I've eaten better quality meats and this was just ok. The assorted... More

We went early (4:30 pm) and were seated and waited on immediately. Friendly and efficient wait staff. Nice selection of steaks and appetizers. I had the filet and my wife had the prime rib. Each was excellent and done to perfection. A little pricey but we will return. Just South of I-80 a couple of miles. Note only open 4p-9p.

I called ahead to reserve space for about 25 coming to a reunion at the U. of Wyoming. The owner suggested a limited menu to facilitate quality and speed of service. That proved to be very important to the success of the event. She readily gave us an adjacent room that we had to ourselves and a table on which... More

We had our company party here last night (Thurs). We ordered and it took 2 hours to get our food. We only had a party of 12 and there were only 3 other occupied tables in the restaurant. Some items were not what we ordered. One had ordered crab but got lobster, one was told they didn't have the ribs... More

Service was slow going to nonexistent. It took a almost an hour for our entire party to receive our drinks. I had to ask 3 times for cream for my coffee. Whilst the appetizer & salads came out about a half hour after placing our orders, after 2.5 hours we still had no food. We told the management that being... More

We stopped here for a guys night out when we were going to Colorado hunting. They have very good steaks here and I am sort of fussy about my steak, being raised... More

Description
The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.
