This is a small store at Kilauea Ave where we can get some Hawaiian Japanese tasting's food. If you really expect something like eating a meal in Japan you can feel disappointed because for Japanese average's flavor I think is over sweet and as many lunch box in Hawaii it lacks in vegetable portion ( no so much vegetable in... If you're looking for good Japanese deli style take out plates, this is the place to go! Used to eat here when I was growing up on the Big Island. Great place to make a take out plate with cone sushi, shrimp and string bean tempura, fishcake, fried chicken, etc. - for a plate lunch for a picnic or when... More

You will never find better tasting Japanese take-out than at Kawamoto Store. The trick is to go early, immediately after they open. They sell out quickly, and for good reason. You cannot imagine better flavors. Once you try them Trippers, it becomes your gold standard. Beware. This is another of those incredible hole-in-the-walls that everyone talks about, but few ever... Good old fashion "Okazu" at Okazu prices. Flavors brought back so many memories of my childhood. I bought some items to have for lunch while up at Volcano N.P.

Best cone sushi and hash, from "small kid time", one of grandma's favorite stops to pick up lunch. Please visit and keep it going! Awesome local style japanese Okazuya!

Small mom & pop store. Friendly staff. Must go early to get the nori chicken...most things sell out by 10am. Im not an early bird so unfortunately i wont be going there again soon, unless i needed to be up at 6am.

Kawamoto Vegetable Store has been a fixture in Hilo almost forever. The quality of the 'okazu-ya' style food is excellent and will thrill ex-pat Hiloans as well as visitors from the continent or even the international crowd. Pick up a box lunch and head down to Liliuokalani Park for an old school Hilo lunch. It doesn't get any better.

Simply awesome in a hole in the wall. Make sure you get their Korean chicken and sushi. It's almost all good! You won't be disappointed.
