Hands down the best food we've had on the Big Island after 2+ weeks of trying various restaurants. My rating would be a 5 if it were not for slow (but friendly) service. It's very expensive (welcome to Hawaii) my steak entree being $58 and...More

If you want great food then eat here. Great cocktails, amazing steak, good fish, local ingredients. A little pricey, but completely worth the cost.

We have been dining at Merriman's since 1991. Our dinner last night was simply one of the best meals ever. Chef's Jose and Lotree just made every aspect of this meal perfect. The salad had the perfect amount of dressing and the opakapaka was cooked...More

Very good food, very good service. Atmosphere? Not so much. Not the most convenient place to get to if you are anywhere on the Kona Coast but well worth the drive up the hill. Once you go, you will go back. They close between lunch...More

Party of 6 visited for dinner on Saturday night at 7:30. We were celebrating our kids college graduation. It was so loud for the first hour we literally could not hear each other. The local tomato salad was ok, the caesar salad was ok. For...More

We liked our meal at Merriman's, but it was pricey compared with our other dinners on Kona. The portion sizes were small compared with other nearby restaurants, which is not necessarily bad unless you're very hungry. There was nothing wrong with our visit to Merriman's;...More

Had lunch there and will return before we leave The Big Island. Best meal we have eaten in the islands. All local foods, except the liquor. Salads, meats, deserts, and coffee fantastic. I had pork which was as good as I have ever eaten. Save...More

This is one of Peter Merriman's upscale restaurants. There aren't many tables, so reservations are a must. The service is excellent as is the food. The ahi poke is delicious, the goat cheese salad is wonderful and the steak is awesome. Of course, you can...More

Driving through Waimea and heard Merriman's was the best restaurant on the Big Island. Casual, light filled interior. Very friendly staff, although hit or miss on knowledge. There was a very knowledgeable woman who guided us through the extensive wine list, convincing us to try...More

Yes we brought our own wine but I do not recall the corkage fee. They have an excellent wine list as well. Much better than most island restaurants.

Is there a dress code - can I wear shorts, flip flops and a nice shirt or do I need to wear pants and filp flops?

This restaurant is a fine dining establishment. I think you would feel more comfortable wearing slacks and a nice shirt. It isn't really a shorts and flip flops type of place.
