I had heard good things but for us it was alright.... we were noticing some issues with the cleanliness of the restaurant and washrooms making us wonder about the cleanliness of the food preparation areas. The food was alright as well.

Please don't expect the ruth chris steak house. But, Shaka has provided me many a delicious veggie burger, poke bowl, and cheese fries for my late night cravings. Late night in Naelehu is 7pm by the way. I took my family here multiple times when they visited, You can find something for everyone, well its not vegan friendly... but it... More

Dry old fish. Specifically asked for fresh fish, but got old stale frozen fish. The place looks decent from the outside and quite inviting. They serve some local beers. The best part of the restaurant is their bathroom.

This was really your average fried seafood place as far as the food goes. The staff was friendly enough, and the beer and smoothies were great. Expect your order of fish, chicken etc to be deep fat fried whether it says that on the menu or not. The macadamia nut concoction that they fry everything in was well tasty.

Great locally owned bar and eat. Most southern in the US! Have a beer and snack here on the way to southpoint.

We stopped to have lunch and there were only about five other customers in the place. We had to go looking for the waitress and ended up finding the busboy cleaning dishes in the back. He got us seated and then a few minutes later the waitress showed up and before taking our order let us know it was CASH... More

We stopped here on our way to the black sand beach after the green sand beach hike. There aren't a whole lot of options in the area. The service was good, the staff is very nice, the food however was not great. We had the poke and the lau lau plate. The poke wasn't great, we had better poke everywhere... More

The Southern Most bar in the USA also services good food, we had the Tuna Poke (raw) and it was terrific, almost too much but delicious. The service was fast and friendly and there are some local characters that add colour.

We stayed at Volcanoes until after dark to see Pele's glow. We were starving on our way back to Kona. Shaka Restaurant was open and we decided to try it despite the mixed reviews. It's locally owned, run by family members. You're on island time, grab a menu when you walk in, have a seat. Relax. Ono, ahi, hamburger steak... More

Stopped on our way to the black sand beach. The food was ok at best. The young man who brought us our lunch was a great kid and the rest of the staff pleasant. Other than that swing in for a cold beer and keep moving.
