This tour is very similar to the coffee plantation tours, which are free (in hopes that you will purchase their products at the end of the tour). First you are given a beverage. I took one taste and threw it away - it was supposed to be vanilla tea, but it just seemed to be water - very bland. For... More

My friend and I were visiting the Big Island when we noticed a pamphlet for a lunch and visit to a vanilla farm. We were curious, so called for reservations for lunch. We were delighted with the rustic setting and the aroma of great cooking! We were pleased with our lunch, but a bit disappointed with the vanilla plants as... More

Enjoyed this Vanilla Bean farm tour. This is a family run business and they seem to be doing it well. Ian was very informative and fun, adding in several little family tidbits as well. The luncheon was superb in taste and presentation. I learned a lot about the vanilla bean and vanilla making process. Their small retail area is nice... More

What a great experience. We learned so much about how vanilla is made. The lunch was delicious, too! This is a great way to spend an afternoon and is well worth the money for the lunch and the tour. The portions were very generous!

Great tour about the growth of vanilla. I'll never underestimate the flavor of the vanilla bean! The ice cream was terrific!

Not to missed since this place is so unique. A family-created and run operation since 1998, they strive to do their best! There is food available but you must book in advance for the special lunch.

I had only heard about the Vanilla Company through reading through TripAdvisor (thanks TA contributors!) and decided it looked good enough to make the hour and 15 min trip from the Fairmont Orchid. It was WELL worth the trek! The "TL:DR" version is it's a haul to get to as it's in the middle of nowhere, do the lunch as... More

Didn't get to do lunch, but thoroughly enjoyed the VERY interesting tour. Learned lots of new ways to use vanilla and now that I have learned how to make my own, I will never buy vanilla extract again! Be sure to buy some of the vanilla soap, it was a huge hit as a gift for friends at home.

Friends took me to the Hawaiian Vanilla Co for lunch and a tour. What a surprise! Located up Mauna on the beautiful Hamakua Coast, this family-run business offers tours, products, and information. We started with a yummy lunch - shrimp appetizer, burgers, potatoes, and a fantastic salad of local greens, goat cheese, pecans, tossed in a vanilla/balsamic dressing. Everything was... More
