So I realize this option isn't open to everyone, but if it is, this is a great choice. Like most other military lodging options, the rooms are pretty basic, but also clean and well-appointed. Something we did not expect is that while your room may be pretty basic, when you consider all the amenities on the "base," you are really... More

Old and historic, built by the military for "R and R" during WWII. Must be military, retired and/or sponsored by a military. Well worth it, if you can get in.

Solid value. Accommodations impeccable for this historic property; all basic needs from lodging to tours to food well met. A well-oiled vacation/R&R machine with friendly staff.

We visited the Volcano National Park on a cod and rainy day. It had reasonable prices and plenty of room. The food was very reasonable for the area with a burger being under $5.00. I gave it a 4 for the location but the food was average.

This is a classic camp for military families. You can't stay here, but you can eat. Breakfast is good and much less expensive than the lodge. There is also a little grocery store (the only one we found in the park) that is open to all.

Probably one of the best options for lodging close to volcano. Only open to military. We stayed in a nice cozy little cottage with 2 bedrooms and a fireplace. Located only about a mile from visitors center. On camp is a bowling alley, gas station, gym and small store. The food however i have found to be below average but... More

All of the staff was so nice, helpful and accommodating. The rooms are better than what you'd expect at the price. There is a Rec center and a General Store on site with everything you'll need on the volcano. The camp is about 1.5 miles from the Jaggar museum where the best view of the lava lake is. The tour... The cabin we had was wonderful; clean & cozy. The location is amazing- easy walking distance to the steam vents & views of the crater. The Jaggar museum is a short walk or an even shorter drive. We took the KMC volcano tour & the information provided & the stops we made really was worth the cost! Our guide gave... More

We didn't know this place existed, but so glad we found it. Spent four nights here while visiting Hilo and the volcano. PROS: very easy to find from Hilo airport; perfect location within the park; super short drive to the Jagger museum, sulphur fields, and steam vents; easy drive to Chain of Craters drive; cheap laundry service; general store is... Hard to beat for military folks. The location is great and the staff is super wonderful, knowledgable, and helpful. A short jaunt to the steam vents or caldera for breathtaking views of the lava erupting. It can get rainy at times so be prepared and bring a jacket. It gets cool. Call your MWR for reservations.
