Some people will fear this place because the idea of eating in a restaurant that it all dark and not seeing your food or surroundings can be intimidating and conjure up all kinds of images and problems. Not to fear I say to you. This place continues to be a great experience in dining with good food as well. I... More

The food was average but the service and the experience amazing, and it's pricey for what it is, but I would do it again if it was a special occasion. The only gripe I had was a timer on the wall had illuminated a few times during our meal, which meant we did see for a few seconds each time.

They lost our bottle of wine. Food is moderate at best. Our server Sergio was eating while serving. Horrible

I reluctantly agreed to take my daughter here for her 18th birthday... she was dying to experience dining in the dark. It was completely dark, you are guided to your table by your waitress conga line style, everyone holding the shoulders of the person in front. I was nervous of being in the dark and that I wouldn't find the... More

A once in a life-time experience, not to be repeated. Not because it wasn't a great experience, but now that I know what to expect it takes away the most important element. In San Jose for a conference with a group of like-minded business people, the organizer arranged for us to have a secret late-night dining experience. We knew nothing... More

For those willing to have an open-mind even while you feel like your eyes are closed, Opaque is an incredible dining experience. Don't think this is simply about the food. It isn't. It is a total dining adventures where you get to experience life like the blind do. The food is not a fine dining 5 star experience but is... More

I’m floored by the great reviews of this place. It’s my eyes that can’t see I can still taste! OMG for 100 PP we were expecting fine dining. This place is probably on par with your local diner where you can get all 3 courses for 25 bucks, blindfold yourself and voila, I’ve just saved you 200 dollars, you’re welcome.... More

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed dining at Opaque. We were only in San Francisco for one night and decided that we wanted to try something new. Mocha was an excellent server who was very helpful with guiding us in the dark. The food was very good but it was the overall experience that makes this place a unique gem.

We entered down a skinny stairwell and were immediately greeted by the hostess. She gave us menus and took our orders. She also asked if we have any food allergies, as we would not be able to see our food. Our server Senya guided us to our table and then the fun began! The absolute pitch black darkness was a... My husband saw a travel show about this dining concept years ago, and he's always wanted to try it. This past weekend while the kids were off visiting the grandparents, we decided to give it a shot. We could only get the first dinner reservation, which was at 5:30. We were a few minutes late, but our hostess instructed us... More

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighbourhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
