What an entertaining restaurant. The bar is amazingly long. All staff are male in white coats. The food was superb. My chiopino was superb. The fish selections are wide. It was a great experience.

Was recommended this SF institution by a family member and was very excited to visit. The ambience was great and the bread to start was delicious and the starters were very good, chowder, calamari and prawn cocktail. The entrees were a disaster, the prawn curry (casserole) tastes like a grade 9 kid made it with curry powder. The calves liver... More

First opened in 1849, it is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in California. Clearly, a restaurant open for over 150 years and fully packed with customers every night offers the kind of food people are looking for and enjoying. We loved our experience here. The waiter was personable, charming, and efficient, always nearby and attentive. The food was superb. I... More

We went here twice during our recent trip and could see why this place is so popular. And, it is one of the oldest restaurants in America. The staff is very experienced and attentive both at the tableside and in the kitchen. The menu is very extensive and we were not disappointed in any item that we ordered. We were... More

This is the place to go to for the feel of locals in San Francisco. They don't take reservations, but it is worth the wait. It is known as one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco. Staff is excellent!!! Certainly beats a lot of other higher price restaurants in SF.

We walked in at 8:30pm on a Friday night and were seated promptly. The staff were friendly yet the service from our particular waiter (an older seemingly local gentleman) was simply astounding. The menu knowledge, attention to detail, friendliness and attentiveness blew us away from start to finish. The food itself was also on another level, with fresh meat and... More

My best friend and I were waiting for another friend to arrive from the airport so we stopped at the Tadich Grill not too far from Union Square. An easy walk from most of the hotels. Worth it too! It was Friday night and the place was extremely busy but they got us in and we waited maybe 20 minutes.... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
