We were accommodated at the bar despite a full restaurant. The fried oysters were simply brilliant. Not over cooked nor over battered. Simply fresh! I thought about cancelling the lobster salad for more oysters but I'm glad I didn't. The serving was not huge but the flavours and presentation were first class. My wife had the fish and chips with... More

Ferry Plaza is probably our favorite seafood restaurant in all of San Francisco. The service is friendly and attentive, the sea food is impeccably fresh and delicious, and the portions are generous. AND, it's a restaurant that you can go to with your best friends and enjoy good conversation!!!! That aspect is a truly welcome relief from the din of... More

Convenient location, exceptional service and over the top delicious food! I happened to luck in to a dinner here on a Tuesday night. Many locals inside indicated to me that it is well known for its good food and great service. Their wine list is excellent, too! Best thing on the menu? Hard to choose, but whatever you choose be... We went here because it close. It wasn't busy so it was making us question our decision but we pretty much had the place to ourselves and had a great time. Seafood is the big thing here. All our dishes were great. Service was good too

We just happened to walk by this restaurant walking through the neighborhood and so happy we decided to have lunch here. The seafood dishes were quite good and our server was very friendly and attentive. Would love to come here again when I visit San Francisco.

Ferry Plaza Seafood recently relocated and I think people are still discovering it. On a relatively quiet weekday night, we enjoyed freshly shucked (as we watched actually) oysters from Washington state in this open, bright, calm environment. Sitting at the bar for Happy Hour, we had attentive & friendly service. A customer next to us was enjoying a beautifully prepared... More

Fantastic seafood options. Had a great meal with good service. A great restaurant if you don't want to eat Italian in the area. Would highly recommend the scallop risotto.

We arrived on Friday night and the place was nearly empty. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and after they were served, I could not get a waiter for over ten minutes to bring me some horseradish. Worst of all, the oysters tasted 3 days too old--I could not eat them. I moved on and tried the mussels--they tasted 5... More

We had a rainy day and decided to take in a happy hour which lasted 3 hours. We sat at the bar and visited with local and tourists sheltering from the rain. The $1.50 oysters were great and about 1/2 the regular price. The happy hour Sauvignon Blanc was a deal at $20. And if you asked for steamed crab... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
