We were staying at Beck's Motor Lodge across the street so we went to Sweet Inspirations for Breakfast each morning. The place is part cafe and part bakery with an amazing selection of cakes. The breakfast menu includes an amazing omelette (make your own choice of filling). What made the place for me though was the friendly welcome we received... More

Cute coffee shop with great bagels right across from our hotel for convenience! Lots of sweets and goodies for a late night snack as well, great prices too.

I had a HUGE piece of German Chocolate cake that was just amazing. It was more of a dark chocolate than a sweeter milk chocolate, which made me love it more!

At same day me and my wife went twice. First for breakfast, where we had a good size of plates for an honest price. As the taste was really good, we decided to go back in the afternoon in order to try the cakes. Absolutely delicious and a large size for each choices: red velvet and blueberry cheesecake. We strongly... More

We went there a few times to have breakfast, either in the cafe or for take away. The bagels were really tasty, the coffee was average (for a European). We were impressed by the cakes they offer. They all looked gorgeous and we regret that we didn't test them. Staff was super friendly.

Pros: Portions are big, seating is ample, employees are friendly, they have free wifi, only cake place in the castro (besides a grocery store) Cons: Only 2 outlets available, cake is commonly dry, flavors are artificial (orange cake with canned oranges and orange food color), cakes look and taste like they were made by Mom from a box If you... This pastry shop has some of the best pastries in the city. Very wide assortment to choose from. Large portions, usually have to take half home with me.

Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
