Delicious place to eat. I highly recommend dining here. Good tapa selection and great sangria! We got the chicken ham, beef and potatoes. It was delicious !

We had wanted to go to Z. but as it is only open for dinner and is very small, we never planned for getting there early until Friday night. To make our visit possible, we arrived shortly after it opened and got an immediate table. Our server immediately set the tone and we had a very warm and fun time... More

We saw that zarzuela was on the way from union square to ghirardelli square walking or if you want cable car. Because they don't take reservations and we miss judged the walking time back to the restaurant we ended up sitting for more than 1/2 hour in front, but found that to be quite pleasant. We were the first ones... More

Very good Spanish Tapas/small plates restaurant. Our waiter, Arturo, was skilled, professional, and very pleasant. Food was attractively prepared and delicious. The house made Sangria was some of the best I've had. A table by the window offered a view of Hyde St. as well as the cable car and tourists, who added to the pleasantness of this location.

We are visiting San Fran on holiday & was getting tired of the 'tourist restaurants'. This was a nice find and good spanish food. The atmosphere was friendly & it seemed many locals visited this place as they seemed to know the owner. The decor may need freshening up a bit but other than that cant fault it. We were... More

The best of the best!!! Just wonderful food and service. I had the rabo, my wife the pork medallions and my son the pasta with sea food!!! Amazing. Felt back in Madrid. Service attentive and prompt . Not enough words.

Got here early on a Friday, about 6, because they fill up fast. My first time (tourist). I found it quite noisy as the evening progressed, but not impossibly so. Although this a tapas restaurant ii opted for the paella for two; it was plenty without appetizers or dessert! Very nice. Other diners' dishes looked intriguing. Service is very good!... More

We had a great experience at Zarzuela. A 15-minute walk (mostly uphill, but then, this is San Francisco!) from our Fisherman's Wharf hotel, one could take the Hyde St. cable car directly to the restaurant. At 6 PM on a Tuesday night in January, we were the first ones in the place. I am sure this is not true at... More

I fell in love this past year. From management down to every bite they served me! Zarzuela is a force! One that can only be tamed by indulgence..... Mmmmmm :) Oh, and don't forget to try their sangria!

This quaint restaurant (30'x40') is a favorite of locals who are greeeted with a hug by the manager. Here is the routine: 1) sit down (no reservations, but tables turn fast. Come by 6:30 if you don't want to wait) 2) order Sangria. It comes immediately 3) order Paella. It is a must. It takes half an hour. Order now.... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
