I know how horrible it sounds, but I think a sign of a good ethnic restaurant is to see people of the same ethnicity eating there. The menu on the street showed a great deal of "western" style chinese food and some other more authentic things. The menu is huge and there is something for everyone in there. I have... More

I can't say I'm a dim sum expert, but of the few times that I've had it this is by far my favorite place. I like that this restaurant is in the middle of Chinatown and has been around for a very long time. There are so many hot steamy and delicious options to choose from and each is like... More

We ate dinner here one night and was surprise hardly anyone was there eating. We ordered and the Chinese food was very good and the prices was reasonable. Service was friendly and she spoke fairly good English.

This is my San Francisco Aunt's favorite restaurant in Chinatown, where she has been coming since the 1970s. The whole restaurant (and Chinatown) buzzes with the "ToiShan" dialect of Cantonese, a legacy of ongoing waves of immigration from this nondescript group of little villages up the Pearl River delta from Macau, China since the California gold rush-days. This cultural legacy... More

This restaurant serves excellent Asian Foods. Be prepared to wait as there are many customers here. It is located in the China District and you also can go shopping here for Asian items. Enjoy the food !!

Stepping off the street in the heart of Chinatown, we entered through the unassuming bakery upstairs. The room opened up to a red and gold dining room with lanterns. Not a round-eye to be seen. We knew we were in the right place. Staff was immediately friendly and casual - looking to seat us as soon as a table opened.... More

Dim Sum has to be eaten with the right atmosphere - amid the clattering of dishes, noisy conversations in Cantonese and the hustle and bustle of old Hongkong. The quality of the food was excellent and prices were reasonable. This is one of Chinatown's long-standing eating establishments. Long-time residents and history buffs will recall the 1977 gangland shooting that ended... More

This restaurant is located at 816 Washington St. in San Francisco. We went there on account of a promotional coupon. We will not return even if we had another coupon. We ordered two seafood dishes as we do not eat meat or poultry. We tried to explain to the waitress that we wanted different sauces on the two dishes. She... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
