What a gem of a place. We loved it here, the authentic food, the ambience, and especially Luisa. She was a wonderful hostess. Looking forward to my next trip to SF.

During a business trip to SF back in 2013 I had the chance to visit this restaurant, it was the only one accepting to take a group of 5 after 10 P.M and it was great! I loved the pasta and the seafood soooo good. Luisa is such a trooper we had an amazing evening. But I have to admit... More

My wife, Daughter and myself went to Luisa's in mid July to have an early dinner and try their Lasagne that I had experienced 10 years ago. My wife and Daughter split the Bolognese Lasagne and I had the seafood Lasagne. Both were very good. However the 2 salads for the table were plain (mixed green & Cesar salad) were... More

I couldn't be more effusive about how much I loved this restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by Luisa, the charming proprietor who is in her 80s but looks like she could be in her early 60s. The food was top-notch but not fussy; just very authentic and fresh Italian. The Saltimbocca Alla Romana at Luisa's was just as good, if... More

87-year old Luisa Hanson has reopened her classic Southern Italian restaurant in Nob Hill. If you are unfamiliar with Luisa, be prepared for a treat. She's about the most diner-friendly owner I've experienced, who isn't shy about sitting down with you and chatting about her long personal history and why she is a perfectionist about her cuisine. At our recent... More

We arrived early evening after a long walk from Union Square. We were introduced to Luisa (she's 87 in case she asks you to guess). Food was very tasty, if a little expensive. Atmosphere could have been a little livelier but not a bad choice.

visited the one on California street, the food was awsome! Take it from a person that loves cooking, you will not be dissapointed. Not to mention, if you are lucky the grate Luisa her self will come by and make shure you are having a nice dinner! Love from the Norwegian couple

Louisa had just moved into the restaurant and charmed us as soon as we arrived by her personal history and description of her delicious food. Despite being in her eighties it was clear that she had still coked much of it using old family recipes. We all enjoyed great food and wine but went home with empty pockets.

In October 2012 we stayed in San Francisco for 5 nights. We enjoyed many wonderful meals however on our last night we found an absolute hidden treasure in Union St near Pacific Heights. This Italian resturant is owned by a San Francisco icon in the restuarant world. When you walk in the atmosphere and decor is stunning and very inviting.... More

My family and I spend Thanksgiving weekend or the weekend before in San Francisco and usually eat, one night, in the Little Italy area. This year, my sister in law decided to look for somewhere new to go and found Luisa's so we thought we would try it. My mom, stepfather and I were just in Italy in September so... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
