We were staying at the Palace Hotel so used the bar at night. Great cocktails and friendly, professional staff.

We were staying at the Palace Hotel and thought we would go downstairs and have have a nice meal (wife and I). The bar section was packed and looked like everyone was having a great time, so the hopes where high. We were seated immediately and the waiter was very nice. The menu left a lot to be desired (5... Located in the Palace Hotel, this place serves excellent chargrilled burgers with a lovely smokey flavour. Served with either potato or sweet potato fries, we loved the latter.

We stayed in The Palace Hotel where this restaurant is situated. The restaurant was extremely crowded - this is a lively place - and we did not have reservations. We were seated in the bar area which made no difference, really. It's just a little noisier. The food is basically the same. I ordered a variation on a shrimp cocktail... More

Great in a pinch if you're staying at the hotel. Old world luxury charm but a little dark. Great for a night cap or a meet before dinner elsewhere.

We travel to San Francisco, at least once per month, and often more. When we stay downtown, we are usually at the Palace Hotel - Pied Piper Bar & Maxfield's is in the lobby, near the Market St. entrance. Over the years, the Piper has had a few changes. When we first visited, there were TV's above the bar in... More

Enjoyed signature cocktail-Market Gimlet-ate delicious (small plate) dungeness crab salad. The only part of the Palace Hotel that needs work is the restaurant staff.

Gorgeous bar with extraordinary mural. A must see when visiting San Francisco. So glad they returned the Pied Piper mural to the bar.

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
