This bar was once listed by Esquire magazine as one of the top bars in America. Although the place looks magnificent, the service is poor with waiters who had trouble keeping an order straight and food which was only slightly above room temperature. The bill for three cocktails and three entrees was over $120, making this an incredibly over-priced experience... More

We were very impressed with the decor and classy setting. The bartender mixed drinks to order and each one was perfect. We also had calamari, a great burger and sweet potato fries. Each delicious; albeit not the healthiest of combinations. The salads also looked great. We will be back!

Stopped in for a complimentary drink during a stay at the Palace Hotel. Staff was very friendly and prompt. Butternut squash soup was fresh. Good place to get a quick bite as it is conveniently located in the hotel.

Bar area hopping - World Series Game. Noisy. Sat in dining area. Much quieter, nice atmosphere. We all had the butternut soup - very good. Then shared the cheese and meat plates. Good portions, and quality foods. Good presentation too. There were 3 in our group, and was plenty of food. Not an extensive list of wines by glass, but... More

Sit at the bar, have some bar snacks and a martini, and enjoy Maxfield Parrish's lovely painting of the Pied Piper leading children out of the village.

Stayed in the Palace hotel about 5 times- never tried the restaurant. Tonight, I decided to have a quick dinner. Not very impressed with the experience. You have to find your own table, table was dirty and bus boy was no where to be found. Waitress seemed overwhelmed and food took too long to be served.

Great drinks, new ones and grand classics, perfect ambient, seating at the bar, high tables and lower mabye more comfortable tables for a relaxed break. They also serve light meals! Ricardo was great at mixing, advising and wonderful to watch - he belongs to Pied Piper like the Golden Gate to SF. Don't miss even if not staying at the... More

After being shunned for brunch at the Garden Court, Nate took very good care of us the first day at The Palace. He was attentive and took very good care of us.

The Maxfield Parrish mural is the draw, and man is it a WOW factor. Nurse a gimlet at the bar and one can stare for a long time at the artistry. Order some fries with black truffle sauce, another drink and look around at the incredible wood work throughout. Just magical.

OK Burgers are intensely personal and subjective. I love a rough grind 80/20 so the fat holds it together, med-rare with cheddar and a good meet to bun ratio. Why does KOBE make a difference when its ground? This was too fine and over worked: grainy. It was mid-rare upon deliver but cooked its-self well before I was 1/3rd done.... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
