If you come on a weekday between 5 and 6 you get an amazing array of app, entree, and dessert choices to select from. While my companion chose from the extensive broader menu, I had a caesar salad with local dungenese crab, an entree of brick-covered chicken (substantial!) with potatoes and a veggie, and a cheese plate to close it... I loved this restaurant because it was top table without the pomp and ceremony. I ordered the oysters for starters which is always a risk for a first time. They were delicious, salty and succulent. The service was great, the wine list albeit large was very limited to Italian and American, ok cause you are in an Italian in the... More

My friends and I ate here before we went to a play, and we were thoroughly pleased with the meal! We had a choice of salad or soup, a full entree, and dessert for $30!! That is remarkable for SF. The ambiance was lovely, and the food was delicious. I will come back here!

We enjoyed one of the best Italian meals at Capannina. Make sure you make reservations, as it is a popular dining spot. The polipo alla griglio was so tender and full of flavor. The veal scaloppini with black truffles was delicious.

It is a beautiful restaurant on a lovely street but nothing else about it is more than average. We ate there with our two children and felt like we were imposing on the waitstaff. I had the pork cutlets and my husband had the seabass, both were ok,but nothing to really go out of your way for. Far better choices... More

Great food, fun little place, don't plan to park nearby unless you have amazing karma. Delicious Italian cuisine with large portions, shareable. Great overall experience. The burrata was wonderful as was the risotto con vongole.

I'm from Boston which is chock full of Italian restaurants but somehow San Francisco has us beat on this. Capannina is just a delight. From the service to the food, all is wonderful. The linguine with truffles was to die for. So was the carpaccio with truffles. And the fish in a Corvina sauce with polenta, well. You get the... More

Ate here for the first time tonight. A fantastic meal in a wonderful neighborhood environment. First, sounds silly but the music level was such that you can hear the other people at your table- has become something of an issue in many restaurants. The Buffalo Mozzarella was homemade and amazing with great peppers. The soup was a Zucchini and Crab... More

After a busy afternoon walking around the Presidio and the girls shopping at Maceys, we all gathered at Capannina for dinner. Boy we were all really hungry Immediately the friendly and knowledgeable staff there at water and bread rolls on the table I ordered the soup of the day, some oysters and a lovely rigotoni with some nice Italian red... Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
