I live in the center of San Francisco and this is my go to place for superb Italian cheeses, oodles of fine olives and the most delectable home-made prosciutto filled tortellini this side of Rome! No longer does my Genovese self create my own Pesto as their frozen version is just as fine as mine and it keeps. Now if... More

We aren't bringing in Italians at the rate we used to so Italian North Beach is getting squeezed out by Chinatown. Molinari's is the last bastion for real Eye-talisman. Remember to pick out your bread before ordering your sandwich.

Our tour guide noted this was his favorite deli in town so we popped in while walking back to hotel from Fisherman's Wharf...so thankful we did. This is a small dellicatessen/store so you take a number and make your order at a counter. They have a small refrigerator with drinks/beer. There are a few small tables on the sidewalk so... More

You want to feel like your in a true San Francisco North Beach Italian Deli? One that's been around for more than 100 years? I mean like the kind you have only dreamed about? Their salami (P.G. Molinari and Sons), sold nation wide won the gold metal award in Italy. This is still operating as a Family Business! Don't take... More

Mortadella. To get anything as good requires an eleven hour airplane ride and nine time zones and customs.

Friendly staff, lines can be long, but there's a lot to look at (and buy?). Grab a number, grab your bread and wait your turn. Plenty of fillings, it'll last two meals. The Renzo, the Luciano, Italian combo, all good, good, good.

I remember going into Molinari's with my Nonna when I was very young. The smell from the salamis, cheeses and porcini mushrooms fills the air and takes me right back to 50 years ago. It's still the best Italian Delicatessen in San Francisco.

I spent many years tromping up the street to get my weekly fix of their mortadella on a french roll. Crammed with great Italian delicacies, wine and a killer deli. Check it out.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
