My spouse had calamari salad with kale, excellent. We both had the smaller plates, scallops with homemade pasta with a mild goat cheese based sauce. Good but sauce just a notch above bland. My petit steak and whipped potato was delicious but be aware that...rare is very rare here. The reduction sauce added to the first rate quality of the beef. We were too full for dessert. Merlot for $10 glass was mellow and priced right.More

We had reservations and were seated promptly. The servers were friendly and attentive. I had the mussels which were plentiful and delicious. My husband had the filet mignon. We tried a couple new wines and were quite pleased. Highly recommend.

Only had one night in Asheville as we were driving through and chose Chestnut based on TA reviews. We were not disappointed. Started with the fried green tomato appetizer which was delicious. We had the chef's special - beef braised ravioli and the pork chop....The ravioli was definitely the star. Tried the Miss Moneypenny cocktail and it was very tasty. Seating is pretty tight if that isn't something you like.More

This was the best dinner we had in Asheville! The food was delicious and there’s a great bar area. The service was excellent and the decor is very pretty. I had the salmon and it was excellent! The burger was delicious, as were the truffle...fries and the soup. Everything we ordered was good. Ended the meal with the banana pudding dessert which was the best we ever had. Don’t leave Asheville without eating at this establishment.More

I picked this place as one of our dinner spots based on other Trip Advisor reviews, and it does not disappoint! Lobster Bisque might...be the best I’ve ever had, the Petit Filet appetizer was absolutely perfect, and my main course (pork shank) could not have tasted better in any way. We had three dinners in downtown Asheville and this dinner was by far our favorite meal! I did make reservations well in advance, thanks Trip Advisor. We were warmly greeted and given a choice of three tables. We enjoyed cocktails and shared a lobster bisque....My husband had the 8 oz Petite Filet and was very pleased. Nothing was left on his plate when done. I ordered the Pretzel Crusted Pork Schnitzel and absolutely loved it. Thought out the dinner we were checked upon. We never felt rushed or hurried along. Sadly, we left no room for dessert. Thank you Chestnut for our most enjoyable evening in AVL.More

This restaurant came recommended by our B&B and by Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint. Our server was Rachael and she had a friendly manner about her that's really hard to describe - we really felt like friends with her by the time we...left. She made us feel special with questions about us as we celebrating our anniversary. And such a great listener - we really loved her. We had the charcuterie board and a bottle of Pinot Noir from Bordeaux, France. That was the second charcuterie board we had had in as many nights but wow, did it ever impress. They complemented the usual meats and cheeses with a mustard sauce and an apple butter that were both unreal in their own ways. The mustard sauce had a spice to it and the apple butter was incredibly smooth and sweet. Dinner was the 4oz filet for me and the salmon for my wife. I really appreciated the portion size of the food - not too large. So often with restaurants, they give you a mountain of mash potatoes and this place showed admirable restraint. It was plenty to eat but it wasn't too much as you find in many places. My wife's salmon was excellent as I sampled a bite. They also put a squash puree on the plate which was just outstanding. As it was our anniversary, the restaurant paid for our dessert which was extremely kind. We split the apple crisp which again was just incredible. Crisp on top of really incredible apples in a cinnamon sauce topped with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. Really well balanced and well done. I almost felt sad when we finally got the check to go home - we genuinely loved our time with Rachael and with the food at Chestnut.More
