After taking the Lessons on Liberty tour, my wife and I were looking for a place to eat. Our tour guide recommended the Green Dragon and we were not disappointed. The tavern has a lot of history and the food was great. I had the smoked brisket sandwich and my wife had the fish sandwich. The food was great and... More

We were looking for a "quaint" tavern for lunch and happened on Green Dragon Tavern. Accommodations are well seasoned and have seen some use but OK for what it is-a tavern. Food was classic bar food but good and the service was friendly. Probably not a destination place but worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood.

My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday at 3.15 to have a drink in one of Boston's oldest bars. The bar area itself was full and we asked if we could sit at any one of the 6 empty tables and have a drink. We were told no, the tables were for people eating lunch only. That would... More

I wanted to drink where the Sons of Liberty were downing pints and brown liquor plotting to start a revolution. Coincidentally, on the chalkboard was a $10 special for a shot of Tullamore Dew and the "beer of the day". Done! The place had a nice menu but we didn't eat here. Great atmosphere with friendly regulars and bartender.

We thought this was a drinking place. Unfortunately our waitress told us if we didnt eat we couldn't sit at the tables. This is despite the bouncer direction for us to seat at the tables for a drink. Go figure. Poor coordination and we couldn't even try to enjoy this place. The interesting thing is that profits on beverages are... More

We went on a City Running Tour and our guide informed us of the unique history involved with the GDT. The food and service was fine. My son had the Bangers And Mash. I had the PotPie. There is a lot of history to look at hanging on the walls. No complaints, just not an extraordinary meal.

Noon on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, the Green Dragon was already hosting at least two pub crawl groups, but the staff was friendly and pleasant. The Guinness stew was hearty and warming and the waitstaff attentive. The placemats have a great little story about the history of the place.

Stopped in for a beer one evening. Good selection, kind of slow service but overall a good atmosphere. It's loud so don't expect quiet conversation - but its a tavern, so pretty expected. Neat little historical stop that should be tried at least once.

Nancy and I were following the Freedom Trail when we saw a group of costumed revolutionaries walking down the road. We left the Trail and followed them to the Green Dragon, and what a good decision that was! Spent a large portion of our day enjoying good pints in a warm, quaint pub while chatting with a variety of tour... More

We stopped here for appetizers and beer on an icy cold evening. The food and drink were fine and the prices reasonable. But what made it special was the huge group of people in Revolutionary War dress. They had been at the reenactment of the Boston Massacre which occurred on March 5, 1770. They were a fun bunch of people!!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
