I'm a big fan of speakeasy-style cocktail bars, and as a result have been to quite a few, so my expectations were high as we climbed the stairs into what seemed like a regular restaurant and passed through an unmarked door into Angel's Share. Wow. Seriously amazing. The atmosphere alone was just perfect. Intimate, elegant, old school in all the... More

You enter an unmarked door and WHAALA...you are transported into a lovely room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the NYC street scene. The drink menu was extensive and the service superb!

Drinks are on the pricey side, however the quality and thought which went into formulating each drink was "WOW"

Good cocktails, quick service, and pretty spacious so easier to get a seat than your typical speakeasy style bar. Nice environment to settle down for a few drinks.

Imaginative menu of superb cocktails. Great atmosphere and staff who know how to mix. We really enjoyed a night of high end drinking here in an relaxed atmosphere. Must visit if you're into NYC nightlife to kick off the evening

My girlfriend and I came here on a weeknight, and had to go through a Chinese restaurant to find the hidden speakeasy. This was the cool part. The drinks were nothing special, with neither of us liking the menu too much.. The mural of angels is cool, but in terms of speakeasies in NY we have others we prefer.

Secret, mysterious & speakeasy. Hard to find but when you do, you feel rewarded. Great cocktails, nice crowd. A bar that you hardly forget.

The place is "hidden" on the back of a small Japanese restaurant. Shortly after they opened it was already full, so it seems to be a good tip for drinks for the New Yorkers. While the drinks were really excellent, the service did not match the taste of the drinks: not a couple of words or even a a smile... More

One of the most eccentric bars I have been to... up the stairs, beyond the loud Japanese restaurant and through a mystery door you find this very small Japanese bar. Its a fantastic spot, with great cocktails and few finger food. Check out their sake list and if you are adventurous try the "groovy" its not in the menu.... You... More

Wanted to visit one of NYC's hidden bars and during my research this one sounded fairly relaxed and not as crazy busy as some of the others. Headed off on the subway to Astor Place then found the sushi restaurant Village Yokocho. Helpfully you can kind of see what you expect to be the bar in the windows above. Felt... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
