We went as a group of 10 for my boyfriends birthday and the food was amazing. The service was a bit slow - but not the girls serving fault since she was almost alone taking orders and bringing the food out while the other girl tended to watch the door and occasionally sit people down and tell the other what... Discovered this restaurant inside the Scandinavian House while staying next door at the Kitano Hotel. My husband was thrilled with his Herring 4 ways appetizer and lingonberry sparkling drink. I had the delicious parsnip soup and Swedish meatballs. Menu was a nice change of pace from the other many New York restaurants.

Smörgås Chef is a 6-minute walk from Grand Central - 42 Street Subway Station and is a very attractive and airy space. Having a birch tree in the dining room center adds a nice visual touch for your dining experience. Lunch was a very busy time for the waitstaff and they were able to handle the crowds. My appetizer of... More

Atmosphere and food were 3 to 4 stars. Pricing was a little higher than expected. Basic salad without any meat, fish or cheese cost $14.00. Basic chicken entree cost $23.00. Service was fine.

Decided to have dinner in the same venue and it was delicious. Portions were reasonable so it was nice to be able to finish my dinner. The pear pie was to die for.

We came to Scandinavia House to see a play ( there is a theater in the basement and we enjoyed the performance). Afterwards we remembered fondly our trip to Sweden when eating a smorgasbord of delicious food.

My wife and I and another couple were looking for a reasonable restaurant on the East Side (upper 30s and Park Avenue) for brunch on a recent Saturday. We found this lovely restaurant in the Scandinavia House. Delicious and fresh salads (I had a plate of four herrings - a Scandinavian specialty that I first ate in Copenhagen). The staff... More

Tasty bread, spicy mayo, chicken breast, roasted red pepper & melted Gouda cheese. Scrumptious! The waitress told us that at least one person at every table orders this. I would definitely have it again!

My companion has met for coffee with a group of friends weekly for several years, and the coffee and pastries are always excellent. The food has a Scandinavian bent, of course, and the seafood tends to be the best. Cleanliness is superb, and the waitstaff is pleasant and very helpful.
