Contrary to some reviews below, found the menu options ok; could choose from an 8 course tasting menu or a 4 course fixed menu for only $79 (which I selected). Excellent value by comparison to others I tried like Per Se and Chefs Table. Only a small restaurant, some seats and tables are a better experience than others. I had... More

I know a good number of Portuguese restaurants, especially in Lisbon and in my Country, Brazil. First of all, I believe that Aldea does not offer a true Portuguese experience. To begin with, service is a little snobbish and unattentive. Overall food is only fair and, sometimes, away from original recipes. Menu is not very well presented with few options,... More

Ate here with my husband a few nights ago. We had 4 courses each and everything was delicious...special mentions for the lobster bisque and the doughnuts, both very tasty. Service was attentive without being intrusive and we were given a very good wine recommendation.

My husband and I went there for dinner and the food was just so beautiful and so delicious! For someone that grew up with Bacalhau in its many forms, the presentation and the flavor of chef Mendes' version is truly mouthwatering. I am a huge fan of "foie- gras" and again the way he presents it, in a little pie-shaped,... More

We visited as a family of 5 on New Years Eve. The tasting menu did not disappoint. The food is delicious and varied. The atmosphere in the narrow building is just right for this type of experience. The staff were friendly yet professional, adding to the fantastic experience. I'd recommend visiting.

I was wanting an authentic Portuguese Christmas dinner experience as being away from home currently but was deeply dissapointed. The food certainly wasn't Portuguese and shouldn't be called as such not to confuse people. As the plates were being removed the bill was presented without even being asked if we wanted anything else as if to rush us out of... More

On a Friday evening during holiday season when every bar in this trendy neighborhood is packed, nondescript Aldea offered up a bar (about eight stools) in the hallway of the restaurant. Great friendly service and perfect for a drink and chat. Didn't visit the restaurant this time.

My wife and I went to Aldea while in NYC. Chose to go with the fixed price menu. Great choices. Had Spanish mackerel escaviche, duck prosciutto. Then on to cured foie gras and an octopus dish. Both were unique and flavorful. Main courses were scallops and monkfish. Again creatively prepared and presented. Dessert was quince cremeux and caraibe ganache. Saw... More

My husband and I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about this place. The service, the wine, the food, the ambiance... Next time, we'd like to sit in front of the kitchen. Can't wait to go back!

Had an accident this day so couldn't complete a full tasting menu but what I had as a selection from the menu was wonderful - top Portuguese food deserving of its ratings and Michelin hat.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
