Comfortable, warm oasis for excellent Ethiopian food nestled in the center of East Village's string of Indian restaurants.

Combo for 2 was the perfect amount of tasty food. Some of the dishes were mild while others were deliciously spicy.

Was looking to try an Ethiopian restaurant and other reviews of Awash on E. 6th seemed quite positive. I had lunch here was really happy with my experience. The service was great and the food was delicious, can't really ask for more. The ambience was quiet but I also visited at an odd lunch time on a holiday weekend. I... More

We did the create your own combo for three when we went. It's like family style dining where everyone shares. The food was delicious! The portions were perfect and it was a reasonable price too.

Food is delicious, price is reasonable and service is good too. If you order the combo, you can try out many items in the menu. Several vegetarian options are also available. Would definitely recommend to visit this restaurant.

I simply love Ethiopian! You get that great big squishy pancake bread and pick up the food in your fingers! YUM. And! I ordered very wisely and got good colors and veg/meat mix. Super good. Remember to ask for extra bread if you need it.

I'm a huge fan of Ethiopian food. I've eaten it all over the USA. This was one of the best meals of it's kind that I've had. I had the "special" Kitfo, and it was delicious. Tender and spicy with just the right "kick" to it. Portions were very generous as well. The Injera had the proper sour quality too.... More

This was my first time with Ethiopian food and it was good. The meal is well prepared and portion sizes are very nice. Ambiance is quiet and calm, service was also prompt. I didn't have anything to complain. They also have a bat menu but I did not try that. Should visit if you want to try an alternative global... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
