Lively little spot in the East village. Food is very tasty. Each with a different flavor. The lamb chops were fantastic. There's a Calcutta feel in some of the dishes....which is nice Owner (the Masalawala) was around and chatting with the diners.

Excellent service, excellent food at a reasonable price (90 dollars for two which included a drink each). Our waiter recommended specials which were very tasty and even downsold us as he thought we had ordered too much. I try not to go to the same place twice, but I'd def make an exception for this gem.

Out of this tiny restaurant came one of the best Indian meals we have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection, albeit on the spicy side (even for us and we eat a lot of spicy food.) I particularly liked their take on Biryani - unusual in that it was very "refined". The Peshwari Naan was the best Naan we've... More

Came here with my family on vacation to NYC and couldn't of been happier. We came without a reservation and they were able squeeze us in as it is a small restaurant. All the food was great. We had the korma, the sagwala, the tikka masala, and the jalfrezi and not one of them disappointed. The flavors were great and... More

4 of us made it here for dinner on Friday night. The place was empty but they still seemed hesitant to give us a table that was reserved for 7:15, even though it was 5:15. The service was standard & the food was good. Two of my friends got the chicken tikka masala, I had lamb vindaloo (my fave dish)... More

We love to eat at restaurants serving food we don't know how to make, and couldn't resist MasalaWala. Small & cozy, with every table filled with happy diners, we expected a great meal, and got it. If you like Indian, you will love MasalaWala.

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
