Sunday evening family dinner after a long day in the city. Shared a Greek salad, taramasalata and octopus to start. All excellent, particularly the octopus. Shared branzino for main course except for non-fish eating son who has chicken skewers. Branzino was excellent. Baklava for dessert followed by complimentary liquor. Only minor issue was the wine mark up seemed excessive. Homely,... More

We used to frequent Periyali when i worked in the area. We have not been back for a long time. This restaurant still has it! Everything we liked about it back when still shines. Especially the grilled Octopus and the moussaka. The service was as always, outstanding and the vibe was relaxed and comfortable. We will be back.

I do not regularly dine out in Manhattan so maybe I am off base by complaining about $14 drinks and $10 water. Four of us had dinner and only two of us had a glass of wine. Everyone thought the food was okay but none of us thought it was unusually good. Grilled shrimp; roasted chicken; special w clams; and... More

Our first choice in Greek restaurants for 25+ years, we were there last night as a group of 10 people. We had ordered appetizers in advance so we had calmari, giant beans, and other things when we sat down. Eventually, not being rushed, we each ordered an entree. I had steak shish kabob and it was great. Dale had lamb... More

Recently, my wife and I returned to Periyali Greek Restaurant, which had been a longtime favorite when we used to live near New York City. We had not revisited the city or Periyali for several years, and when we had lunch there yesterday we were delighted to find it at good as ever! Periyali is quite small and intimate --... More

A great authentic fine dining for Greek cuisine with excellent dishes and comfortable friendly service. Have been going for many years and each time, very pleased with the fish and salads as well as Greek Wines.

We opened our evening at Periyali at the bar, waiting for our friends to arrive. The restaurant is casual and comfortable. They gave us some complimentary olives with our drinks while we waited. When we were seated, the service was efficient yet unrushed. I had the avgolomeno soup as an appetizer, then lamb chops. We had a plate of baklava... More

This is slightly off the beaten track so the hipsters do not show up which is good. Very good Greek food in a nice setting. Acoustics good so you can here others. The octopus, one of their signature dishes, is excellent and can be split. The salad , which you should split as well, is excellent with good tasting tomatoes,... More

We went to Periyali for dinner and loved the place. The starters of Oktapodi sharas - red wine marinated grilled octopus, Horiatiki salata were absolutely delicious; the main course was charcoal grilled lamb chops and scallops. While I loved the scallops, the grilled lamb chops were slightly tough... The Greek red wine was exquisite and we loved the warmth and... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
