We went on a Saturday night, there was lots of snow but there were still many (if not all) tables occupied. Our waitress was very nice and explained all the specials as well as answered our questions in a nice way. We opted for a starter to share: the vegetable quesadilla, it was delicious, the 'sour cream' was very nice... More

Ugh, New York City, your restaurants are too good. This was one of the best meals I've ever had...the food was incredible. We got the seitan sausage flatbread for an appetizer and it was excellent. I highly recommend, especially if you're a meat-eater, it's very very good. For dinner we had the nightly special and the seitan piccata. And a... More

We went there for NYE and it was not at all what we expected. The service was not what you would expect for a place like this. There were such in a hurry to serve the food, that we did not get our wine before the 2nd course. We had to wave to get the waiters attentions because they were... More

Visited C79 with my daughter last month &, as a life long carnivore, was blown away by the quality of the food here & the dining experience. Restaurant was nicely lit & suitably atmospheric, and service was pleasant/attentive throughout. Great cocktails & outstandingly tasty & well presented food..the Moroccan spiced chickpea cake was seriously good. Nice to eat out away... More

Ok, anyone reducing stars on a review because of price in NYC is not living in reality. My daughter is a vegan, which is a total pain in the you know where, so finding a restaurant is always a challenge. In short, the food is outstanding and the prices are more than fair for NYC. If you're looking for superb... More

Been twice over the years and always enjoy myself. I especially love their house made ginger ale. Liked their food so much i bought their cookbook and the cookbook of their sister restaurant Candle Cafe. If you are vegan, vegetarian or even a meat lover, you can find something delicious here

I've been cooking using the Candle 79 cookbook for several years, always with great success, and decided it was time to try out the food prepared the way it was "supposed to be." Surprise -- it was great at the restaurant, but not significantly different from my own efforts; I give full credit to the folks that put the cookbook... More

As a vegetarian since 1993, it's so rare to go somewhere where you can eat EVERYTHING on the menu. That makes for a very tough decision! I saw the menu online and reserved a table for myself, husband and daughter during our trip to NYC. We weren't disappointed. My husband had the entree special, I had the app special, and... More

I couldn't believe how good vegetarian eating could be. Neither of us are vegetarian but we reviewed the menu ahead of time and the restaurant was highly recommended. We were not disappointed! We ordered the roasted cauliflower dish, a pasta special of the day, the avocado squash salad and finished it off with two desserts - cannoli and ice cream... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
