We booked in advance for an intimate birthday celebration to secure a table in the main dining room rather than the tavern / bar area. We were not disappointed. The ambience was right, the service staff well informed and cordial, and the food was particularly impressive. The waiter had a thorough understanding of the wine list and menu (which helped... I had the obligatory 6 course dinner. Even when all courses were beautiful and good; As I found the 3 first courses to be surprisingly similar to texture and taste; marinated scallops, lobster salad (chewy and gave the impression of being marinated, not fresh) and poched hake, I would have liked to be given a choise - and that goes... I had not been back to Grammercy Tavern in quite some time but recently decided to go back to see what they are up to these days. I am happy to report that dining there is still a delight. The service is impeccable and the food wonderful. A sterling evening.

We had the tasting menu and were delighted with our choice. There wasn't a single course that wasn't amazing on both the standard and vegetarian menus. Staff were great too. An extra cake was also a welcome addition to help celebrate my wife's 40th.

Went to Gramercy Tavern with some friends after work. We were met with a nice greeting at the door with smiling hostesses. We were seated and looked around at the nice interior, great ambiance. I got the burger which was pure heaven and my co-workers got the seared salmon over legumes. Everyone said the food was delicious and the ingredients... More

We had an absolutely fabulous experience there. All four of us enjoyed the Seasonal Tasting Menu; each course was meticulously prepared, the wine pairings were inspired and the service was very attentive but not stifling. This was the first visit for three of us, but we will most definitely be back!

Enjoyed the seasonal tasting in the dining room and each course was divine. They were kind enough to substitute the beef tartare in one for one of the starter courses, it was calling out to me, and it was absolutely divine. I did the tasting menu with the wine pairing, superb pairing! I can't wait to return to try lighter... More

We go to Gramercy Tavern periodically to remind ourselves what a really top restaurant can be like - consistently and over many years, Other than its sometimes hard to get reservations it is a great experience. Superb wait staff and superior food and wine. THe new no-tipping policy was a first for us and I wish all would do it.

Food was not something to write home about. Usually undercooked and too complicated food. The 2 stars go to service that was polite. The whole process was extremely long and pompous!!!!

One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests for close to two decades to enjoy seasonal American cuisine, warm hospitality and unparalleled service. The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance. The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
