We visited Esca to celebrate our children's graduation. A fine dining establishment. The portions were generous - the fritto misto amalfitano was delious! The attentive waiter inquired when we need to be finished in order to be at our Broadway show - the food was delivered on time. Prices were steep - as is the NY norm.

This is my 129th review and as a native New Yorker I'd like to apologize to any tourist who has the misfortune to dine at ESCA because they were lead to believe that this was a fine New York Italian restaurant. It's not. I'm almost overwhelmed with negative thoughts about my experience at ESCA so I will try to capture... More

Fresh, fresh seafood. Wonderful for pre or post theater. Don't miss the raw seafood, fresh fish and pastas. I.e. There isn't a bad choice on the menu. And there are one or two non-seafood items for the non-fish eaters in your party. Drawback--the kitchen is better than the restaurant. Don't get me wrong I love it here, but the front... More

Amazing dinner and experience. I have a lot of dietary restrictions due to GI issues and gave a list of restrictions at the time I made the reservation. The manager came to the table right away and stated they were aware of these concerns and he was speaking with the chef. They would work with me, no problems. The meal... More

Wonderful Italian seafood restaurant in the theatre district. Their crudo or menu is superb. Can recommend the hamachi and the carpaccio of tuna. Good main course of bronzino however sides were overdone. Wine list is good with a selection of reasonable vintages. A little noisy and a little expensive.

Southern Italian seafood at its best! One of the most unique dishes they have is spaghetti with lobster. I enjoyed this nice meal and was amazed at how great it was. There are a variety of sea urchin meals. They have a superb wine list as well.

We were desperate to find Shad Roe and after striking out at other restaurants found Esca. The Shad was initially undercooked, but the chef took it back and cooked it a few more minutes and it was perfect. We also had the salmon crudo which was lightly seared and excellent, as was the asparagus. A lovely spring meal. The restaurant... More

There isn't anything to fault about Esca. The staff is welcoming and friendly without being cloying, the location is a few blocks from the theaters, the rooms are comfortable, and the food is fantastic. Plus, it's pretty reasonably priced for NYC. There are interesting wine and mixed drink lists. The crudo tasted like they just caught it, they have sea... More

For seventeen years Dave Pasternack has been doing it right at Esca. For a top quality chef to be there that long is unusual. I like that the chef comes out into the dining room to meet diners. The wines, appetizers, entrees are all worth trying. Don't make it a top choice if you are not a fish person but... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
