First of all, the 192 East 2nd Street location of Il Bagatto has closed and become something else. Il Bagatto has merged with the adjacent wine bar called Il Posto Accanto at 190 East 2nd Street where they have a totally different menu but will make you food from the old Il Bagatto menu if you ask. They also still... More

If you're looking for a true neighborhood gem, this is it. Unpretentious and easy to dismiss if you're not careful, Il Bagatto has an amazingly sophisticated and simple menu with an even more impressive wine selection. You may order big or small plates so you can choose the number of flavors you want to try. Friendly and knowledgeable staff also... More

Had the pleasure of dining at il Bagatto the other day after a long hiatus. Would the restaurant have the same warmth, unpretentiousness, and honest cooking that I remember from years ago? Would the bruschetta have the same simple complexity that wowed me years back? Was il Bagatto simply a passing fad in a gantries neighborhood? Il Bagatto hasn't lost... More

About a year ago, while visiting NYC we dined next door at "Il Posto Accanto" (owned by the same family) and that was really good. They told us about "Il Bagatto" and how the food s was also really good; so this year we made reservations about a month ago(good thing) and had dinner there on Friday Evening. Well, you... More

Il Bagatto has a short, well-curated menu. Much of their pasta is homemade and served in deliciously straightforward sauces. The tagliolini with seafood is particularly good. The dining room is warm and inviting, but also not very big - which means reservations are essential on the weekend. During the week, it's not that difficult to get a table though.

I made reservations here based on NY Magazine's review and TripAdvisor reviews. I was VERY tempted to leave within minutes of getting there, but was ultimately glad we stayed. We were waiting for our NYC 20-something kids and a couple who are friends of ours and live in NYC. We went to the quaint bar in the basement level to... More

My partner and I had intended to go to Il Posto Accanto but went in the wrong doorway and ended up in Il Bagatto! To start with, we were served delicious Italian breads with a "dip" of fine olive oil & balsamic vinegar to go with our prosecco. We were supplied with more of the same without asking. Good service!... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
