Spent a lovely evening and had a great meal. Friendly staff and good service. We don't mind waiting for our meal as we are assured that it is cooked well. A great atmosphere and ambience. Well worth a visit.

Start spreading the news, Chez Josephine is authentically New York! Dramatically theatrical where glamour and great food reign. A memorable continental dining experience with a personal touch personally delivered by owner Manuel and his professional staff, you'll feel like you've really been someplace special because you have. You may even run into a Broadway celeb. Lunch, dinner or cocktails with... More

Chez Josephine will transport you back to an intimate little bistro in Montmartre, Paris. The food is superb, the wine list varied and reasonable, and the service superb. The quality of the food and the warm reception of the wait staff make Chez Josephine a must dine for native New Yorkers as well as visitors. Once you step through its... More

As if the dim lighting, beautifully painted French women on the walls, and a live pianist weren't enough, the service was SPECTACULAR! The food? Was DELICIOUS. Truly a memorable experience.

Best meal in NYC for us ! A tremendous find and wished we had found it before now . A warm friendly and heartfelt welcome, the staff were attentive and all very pleasant and efficient. The fix price menu was what we ate from and was of excellent value, not to mention extremely tasty. Live music too was a bonus... More

Take a look at the website for this restaurant and notice that it is a tribute to Josephine Baker, a cabaret dancer of some fame. In the past, the restaurant was owned by the family, but within recent years it has been purchased by another party without affecting the atmosphere (paintings, live nightly piano music, decorations, etc). I would say... More

Loved this boutique little restaurant, it was lovely decor and very quaint and quiet (a nice solice from the awful weather!) The food was good too but the only downside was the waiting staff were all very miserable. My tea was also served cold and I genuinely felt like I couldn't return it as our waiter looked so upset! Not... More

The rare double: great food and fantastic music to dine by. Feels like Paris before the war, piano, trumpet, clarinet, singer...all while dining unhurriedly on fabulous French cuisine, blessedly unpretentious. A unique and memorable evening.

Description
The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
