This bakery and cafe has long been a favorite of artists and writers. It is always busy. The pastries will satisfy your sweet tooth. A good place to go before or after visiting the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

The Hungarian Pastry Shop is an old, worn out space which I truly hope they never update!! It brings back childhood memories of the old bakeries that those of who are 60 plus fondly remember. Thankfully, there are no neon signs or TV screens anywhere...More

Went for a breakfast, left totally happy! The croissants are huge and delicious. The poppyseed strudel was perfect, just like my grandmother used to make. Finally, the dobos torta is to die for! Service was friendly, the place is nice and quiet, would like to...More

We make a point of stopping in for our morning coffee and croissant because we like the feel of this little shop, which is distinctly un-chain store. The coffee is good and served in porcelain, not paper. The croissants aren't French but are a heavier,...More

I found out this place by chance. It's a lovely shelter 2 minutes walk from Central Park, Columbia University and St. John's Cathedral. Warm atmosphere, free wifi, good coffee, delicious pastries. Here the time is forgotten. The last but not the least: good prices!

When I was there I did not see any signs saying that certain pastries were gluten free...that's not to say they don't have it. I'd go and just ask them. Have fun !!
