I went there while there was a snowstorm and I really enjoy my time in this tiny cozy place. The pastries were delicious! The portions were more than generous. The place is filled with Columbia people (students or academics) so not touristy at all. A true little gem in the heart of NYC!

Just found this place today, after many, many years in NYC, shame on us. They had pastries we used to buy many years ago back home in the Transylvanian city of Brașov. Delicious. Authentic, the real taste. The place is not pretentious, but it was full of people of all ages. Many tables. Great coffe too. Very friendly and helpful... More

There's usually a lot going on at the Hungarian pastry Shop. It's frequented by Columbia students/ researchers/ professors, and sometimes tourists/ visitors from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and I suspect also the staff of the nearby hospital. Here's my disclaimer: I used to work at St. John's, and the pastry shop was a staple part of my... More

Finally after 3 weeks I stumble across this delightful understated but clearly local pastry cafe after seeing St John the Divine - as in cathedral. Fresh pastry & cakes in a ordinary delightful space. Finally enjoy a delicious cake with a good coffee. The service is "same same" but that seems to be New York.

A perfect follow-up to the V&T Restaurant next door on Amsterdam Avenue. Excellent fresh pastry, using real cream, reasonably priced to the quality. Can eat in or take out, with nice selection of coffee, tea.

Large selection of delicious looking cakes and pastries but the taste was somewhat disappointing. We ordered a poppy seed strudel and a slice of dobosh cake. Both we ok but not more than that. A cool place near Columbia university, full of students with books and laptops, nice atmosphere.

I was there after visited the Saint John cathedral located 1 block away. Tired after a long walk my wife, mother in law and me. We taste the Venice, Russian and hubgarian coffee. All of them delicious. And a piece of cake wonderful. We recovered energy drinking a great coffee to continuing walking through Central Park. The service is good... More

Everybody else can praise the pastries. I want to add that the place has a certain warmth, and that the people are friendly.

Stopped for a coffee after visiting the cathedral nearby, after seeing the selection of cakes we thought it would be rude to leave without testing the cheesecake ;-) Nice coffee, great cake, very relaxing coffee shop with a lot of customers who looked like they’d installed themselves for the day!

Thank Mark R
