I had been to this restaurant in San Francisco many years ago and I was excited to try it again here in NY. Although the ambiance was lovely, the food seemed tired and uninspired. In fact, I thought it was more like Chinese food for old people. There was no spice to it and the dishes we had were overcooked... More

The interior is stunning and the location prestigious, but the service is slower than molasses - we waited for an hour just for appetizers. Moreover, if it's Vietnamese fare you want, there are so many better, more authentic and less expensive options all over town. It's a shame, because for the prices @ Le Colonial, it simply doesn't live up... More

I love the interior and feel of the place. Vietnamese food in a nice relaxed environment among tropical plants. Not the best Vietnamese food i've ever had but I love the smaller portions and care in displaying it versus being thrown on a plate. The spring rolls are incredible!!

French Indochine cuisine is coming to be very fashionable these days throughout any large global city in the world. Le Colonial has been around for decades now, and still serves pretty good french colonial fare in a really wonderful setting. I have to admit, having been a client for the past 20 years, that quality has not certainly moved upwards,... More

Excellent dinner at this wonderful mid town restaurant. Recommend you arrive early and head to the upstairs bar for cocktails and get a little sense of colonial Asia Food is excellent as we Always put the food choices in the hands of the chef. The spring rolls are wonderful the lettuce wrap dumplings yum. For the mains don't leave without... More

This beautiful restaurant is decorated as a restaurant during the French colonial period in Vietnam. The food is excellent and the waiter was very helpful in our choosing selections. The restaurant offers a fixed price 3 course dinner that is a good deal if you are going to order one of the three entres anyway. The chicken dish is excellent... More

The food was wonderful and in general the staff was, too. Unfortunately we managed to get the one waiter that wasn't up to par, multiple times forgetting things we ordered, and getting non-vegan things into vegan orders. The hostess was very apologetic, but if it wasn't for the great work the kitchen does, I might not go back.

We were terribly sorry to read about your previous experience at Le Colonial. Of course there are no excuses for a lack of service, but we are so glad that the kitchen was able to make up for it with an impressive meal. We hope you will choose to dine with us again soon so that we might provide you... More

Don't go here for authenticity. It's some version of Asian fusion food. One of which actually reaemnles or tastes like the real thing. Having said , the food is great tasty and good service. It's expensive though. Some starters and a couple of mains with a bottle of wine amongst three of us set us back by about 400

Le Colonial seeks to evoke the atmosphere of French colonialism in Vietnam prior to 1954. It offers a very elegant interior of a classic French restaurant, serving high-end Vietnamese food. While the food was good, it is overpriced for what it offers. The service was mediocre. Had to repeat several times order of a second glass of wine, which eventually... More

Gorgeous atmosphere and super service as well as terrific food. I especially liked the pho with a wonderful beef flavor and filling. Plan to come back again.

Le Colonial is a truly delightful culinary experience. Like stepping into French Colonial Southeast Asia, this two-story restaurant, designed by Greg Jordan, consists of a main dining room with louvered wall panels, colorful tile floors, and vintage photos of Vietnam. Upstairs is an elegant, but lively, lounge serving a full dinner or just appetizers and cocktails. The lounge serves as an ideal setting for private parties and business dinners. Le Colonial serves an authentic Vietnamese menu with an emphasis on fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables.
