Just the right amount of variety on the menu-- choices while maintaining focus. If you are looking for terrific vegetarian dishes that aren't your run-of-the-mill salads or roasted asparagus, there are some wonderful options here like the zucchini starter and the roasted brussels sprouts. The menu and the cocktails are New York City pricey-- expensive, but not beyond the pale.... More

When I am in New York City I want a dining experience. This restaurant is as mediocre as I have experienced and our server could not have cared less. The wait staff and the kitchen are on two different pages. I rate this a solid C-, and that is after spending $200.00 for two people.

We were fresh from Chelsea art galleries, and, although we've been coming here for many years, we'd hadn't been here for quite a while. At just before 6 pm, and without a reservation, we promised we'd be done by seven. My wife started with Cecamarti salad ($18): pancetta, red onion, parmesan, tomato; I started with the Roasted Local Beets ($16),... More

I have known about Red Cat since it opened 17 years ago. Whenever visiting the city I have lobbied to dine in Chelsea but always either overridden by a midtown, village or soho destination or truly a logistics challenge with a commitment. Finally not this time. I was in charge and had my sights set on Red Cat. A last... More

From beginning to end it was phenomenal. The duck breast was superb. Salmon was great. Beet salad was excellent. Homemade ice cream to die for. Service was a 10 on a 10 point scale. One of New York's best restaurants. This is a must. Packed on a Wednesday night. Locals. Price to value right on.

I had always wanted to try this place and finally had the opportunity last week when I was passing by and saw that the restaurant was not packed. Wandered in without a reservation and was promptly seated. I had the lentil soup which was very hearty and delicious if not piping hot. The duck breast was absolutely delicious as a... More

Okay - so this is where we went for T-giving dinner. Cute little place kind of a mix of trendy and old style. Service was fantastic! Cocktails were very spendy but good. The food was not all that great however. Seems that in the push to be creative they completely forgot what flavors enhance each other and go well together.... More

Small gem. Neighborhood place with interesting but not outrageous menu. Excellent quality and food prices just right. Nice crowd and you can actually talk and hear at the table. Just a perfect place for good food, conversation and a "we need to go back" vibe.

Description
This Old Chelsea food hall is a New York original. The Red Cat's combination of come-as-you-are sensibilities and straightforward, satisfying, and occasionally irreverent cuisine instantly establish the restaurant as a favorite with New York diners. As Frank Bruni wrote in the New York Times, "The Red Cat feels vaguely colonial and tavern like, except when it feels downtown-gallery cool, and apart from those moments when it feels modestly and eclectically elegant." If you are unable to book online, please call us directly and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Neighbourhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighbourhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.
