We were recommended this restaurant so headed straight for it when we arrived in little Italy. On arrival we were greeted with the offer of a table outside and free wine or sangria. We accepted and sat down. The waiter then asked if we'd like wine or sangria, so we ordered. We then ordered food and ate pleasantly in the... More

Just walk down Mulberry street and you can't help coming across an Italian restaurant every 10 or 30 feet with a host outside encouraging you to sit and eat at their restaurant. Whether it's Tommy or Johnny you honestly can't go wrong because just about every place is busy. We elected to eat at Umberto's because of the seafood Italian... More

When it sounds too good to be true- run the other way. We were in NYC to celebrate my sister's birthday and turned it into a girls weekend away. We saw the groupon for dinner for 4 and bought it. The service was HORRIBLE! the waiter was a jerk. Absolutely rude and grumpy. Could barley mumble words out of his... More

I haven't been to Umberto's in years and on this cold, rainy night, it seemed like the perfect destination for some good Italian cuisine. My son and I visited for dinner and were welcomed into the restaurant like we were family. We got a great table and service was very attentive. My son can be a picky eater, so they... More

I visited Umberto's Clam House last night with my wife and in-laws for dinner before going to a Broadway show. We were all in the City from out of town, and Umberto's came recommended by a friend. We are very glad we came in - we had a wonderful meal with great service and a little "local flavor" entertainment. Reservations:... More

I have been here a couple of times and the food is fine, but the clams come on a tray with no ice on it. Is that weird? I eat a lot of clams and oysters and this is the only place I have seen that does not serve raw seafood on a bed of ice. That being said, I... More

We were strolling through little Italy when we got pulled in to have a lunch at this little spot. Very quaint and the two guys working there were nice. I had the Ziti and a couple Sangrias. Perfecto!

My husband and I bought a Groupon and went to this restaurant for our first meal in New York. It was the BEST meal we had during the week. This is a little restaurant and is so amazing you won't even believe it. The dining room is small but the servings are big! My husband had clam chowder which was... More

I'm from Vancouver island Canada. I've been to New York City 5 times and every single time I make a point of it to Visit Umbertos (tbh I thought it was called something else 7 years ago). I love the host and he sings Frank Sinatra to me every time. Staple for me. The clam linguine is amazing.

Having walked Mulberry Street up and down twice to find the ideal place for dinner we finally came to the conclusion that the menus all looked much the same and we might as well pick Umberto's Clam House (not because of but despite the restaurant barker on the sidewalk). As it was a bit chilly we chose not to sit... More

Staying in Little Italy

Neighbourhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
