An old brownstone with a few tables on the first floor, a bar on the second. Great service. Food was good - not spectacular but definitely good.

Hourglass Tavern, quaint, excellent ambiance, outstanding service, soft shell crabs to die for, people watching seating, need I say more? Ask for Maria. She will take care of you, or drink your "Brooklyn Flower!"

We Walked 30+ minutes to find this place after seeing such good reviews on TripAdvisor. I'm very surprised it has such good reviews ... my meal tasted ok nothing special ... my girlfriend got a pasta dish and it wasn't very nice at all . It is a little cheaper than other places nearby but it's cheap for a reason.

First things first - I arrived early for our reservation, was directed up the upstairs bar which features happy hour prices, a nice surprise for a midwesterner who is not used to paying $13 & up for a glass of wine. The bar area is small and noisy. The food here is plentiful and tasty. Each person in our group... More

With so many restaurants to pick in NYC we somehow wandered into to a great find, The Hourglass Tavern, on 46th Street in Restaurant Row. The young lady serving us, Katie, was a true delight (once she opened up to us!!) and we wish her the very best in her acting career!!! Portions are nice and be sure to hear... More

Was going to see a play so we decided we wanted a good dinner but it was late in the week to get one. Have been to Hourglass before and enjoyed it very much. We got there early... 4:30 pm. There was 5 in our party and Jason was our server. Excellent bartender, providing great service for drink and food.Also... More

Our group of 8 (2 families of 4) came hungry (with teens) after seeing an afternoon show. What a great surprise! The staff was as friendly in person as on the phone when we reserved. Our large group was placed on the top (third) floor of the old building that houses the tavern. The food was straightforward, good and satisfying.... More

I've been living in Europe but whenever I'm back in NYC I make sure to get to the Hourglass. I had one last day of theatre with my niece before heading back across the pond and this is one of her favorite places to be taken for dinner. As a former vegan who couldn't give up bacon I don't ever... More

Made reservations and walked a few blocks to find a quaint 3 story nice place to eat dinner with another couple. All four meals were well liked. Prices are so reasonable. Cocktails, wine or beer. Definitely worth the time. If going to see Kinky Boots, it's a block away, catch dinner at 5:45, see the 8pm show.

The decor and the food were both so so, and our group found it to be the least inspiring restaurant we went to in several days of pre-theater dining. I made my reservation based on the reviews I had read, but I can't imagine how it scored so high.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
