This Deli on Broadway about 83rd is still a favorite stop on my visits to NYC. In particular I have a Reuben which is the size of a small bowling ball but it is pure heaven with real aged Pastrami (They also do Corn Beef) and it is moist and delicious and just the way I remember it from my... With not too many real delis left, we need Artie's for both the wonderful food and nostalgia. The Ruben is enough for two and with additional free coleslaw and killer sour pickles it's the ideal NY lunch.

Great neighborhood deli for a no-frills break. The usual lunch fare as expected, but the sheer quality of the cole slaw and pickle made for a surprising start. Daughter had a burger which was made to order and quite correctly. Surprising flavor and texture on the pastrami and liver sandwich (photo has a tad of local mustard as well) -... More

I am not a native, but when I'm in NYC Artie's is my deli of choice. We visited mid-afternoon for lunch, so there was no wait. I love their matzoh ball soup, so ordered that with an egg salad sandwich that my husband and I split. He also had a bowl of mushroom barley soup. They serve complimentary pickles and... More

May not be as original or authentic like Katz's, but the pastrami and matzo ball soup is good and they move quickly on a busy afternoon.

Service is very lackluster. When I mentioned that they used to serve pickles and coleslaw when you sat down, the server mentioned only when you order a sandwich now. Place has gone way down hill. Very telling when the place is practically deserted on a Saturday night. It's a shame.

Don't bother going here. From the outside it looks like an inviting fun retro diner. Inside it's just depressing. We were just about the only customers there. The waitress came over looking almost annoyed we were there. Zero expression. Zero personality. Zero interest in us. Took our order as though we were putting her out and she was doing us... More

It's my 2nd visit here in past 6 months and it was just as good as I remembered it. This time I sat down with a nice draft beer and took in the New York City winter atmosphere. Can't wait for my 3rd visit to Artie's.

Since my daughter lives on West 84th St, whenever I visit, I have to go to Artie's Deli for my tongue sandwich. They heap the tongue high, and put great pickles and coleslaw on the table as well.

Legendary restaurateur Artie Cutler's (of Carmine's, Docks, Ollie's, Virgils, Gabriela's, Jake's, Columbia Bagel's) last project was to build a great 1930's New York Jewish delicatessen. When Artie passed away his wife Alice and her brother Carl joined Jeffrey Bank and Chris Metz to finish this project. To rediscover and recreate the flavors of 1930s homestyle Jewish cooking, Jeffrey and Chris tried hundreds of heirloom recipes and talked with people who lived through the era.
