Can always depend on the Oyster Bar for a decent bunch of oysters at a reasonable price. Sat at the bar as usual. New England chowder a little doughy this visit. Oysters were great.

Went pre theater and made 5:00 reservation. They were ready to seat us even though we got there like 5:20, took awhile to locate once we got to Grand Central Station. The vaulted ceilings were great, you feel like your in a secure vault under the city, safe if world is threatened. There were 7 of us and we told... More

Just like the fish, you can get hooked on this place. It is traditional New York. Not especially elegant, it is awesomely large, noisy, crowded, busy. The food is served quickly, is very tasteful, very varied, well prepared, and fresh. Prices are not bad for New York, where nothing is inexpensive. I will keep biting when in the city.

This place is a great place to get good seafood if you're passing through Grand Central. Get some oysters or try the pan roast combo. I come here often, its very busy & for good reason.

Meeting a high school friend I hadn't seen in 40+ years who was coming from Connecticut, we decided the best place to meet was Grand Central Station. It was a freezing cold day and we were reluctant to leave the station so The Oyster Bar it was. The Bar opened along with the terminal itself in 1913 and has been... More

I never had a Pan Roast before but once you try it at the Grand Central Oyster Bar... you will be back for more every time you are in New York. I know that we will. The Oysters are to die for and from both the Left and Right coasts... Go there now!

We had a wonderful meal at this great restaurant. I had the new england clam chowder and the Dover Sole. Both were very delicious and freshly prepared. Cocktails were great and there was an expansive wine menu. Others at the table ordered the seafood platter with lobster. Service was excellent.

The oysters were badly shucked, some had shell in them, and some were not completely disconnected. The non-oyster food was pretty awful, even if it was fresh.

We've been shucking oysters for over 40 years now, Kelly, so I'm disappointed to see you had a less-than-stellar experience with us. At the end of the day, I know we're capable of doing better, so I hope you can give us a second chance in the future to prove that to you. All the best, Frank, General Manager More

This is a classic in NYC. The oysters were some of the best I have had in the city. The clam chowder was also delicious. I would be happy to come back. I recommend you to visit during happy hour, when the oysters and drinks are sold at special prices. FYI, happy hour prices are only available in the Saloon.

Description
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
